Windows XP pro (runs resonable)! ! no eye candy (slows down once anti-virus is running)

I tried puppy linux on it with sea monkey browser works
but it is way too slow i can't take it!
1 minute just to open browser! (After that it is barley usable)
page scrolling very very choppy
if there is flash on the page it practacly halts!

there must be another linux distro that is faster than this (especially with firefox) thanks

I don't want to waste the pc just yet
thanks

Don`t waste it. Not trying to go the Microsoft path but get something like windows 98SE
and MS-DOS 6.2. You can turn it to a DOS machine to play older games like Wolfenstien
,Sim City, and Commander Keen.

That is what i use it for now.

i dual boot 98se , xp pro it now sits as a photo printing station and a dos gaming machine ( thank god for it's ISA onboard sound chip) Sound in dos!! !

A Linux that uses the XFCE or IceWM desktop environments will run fast even on older machines. Xubuntu (the XFCE version of Ubuntu) is a recommendation for starters.
