Blech. This is horrible.
I think Tinky Winky is intended to have a "bag" to represent the wonders of childhood, and Ernie and Bert are just intended as friends or brothers by the producers.

I don't understand how a purse represents the wonders of childhood. What I want to know about Bert and Ernie is is Bert supposed to be a white guy and Ernie a black dude?
