I work in a lab at a university. My only other coworker's cohabiting girlfriend tested positive for COVID. I haven't heard if my coworker tested positive yet either, but he almost certainly will. Our supervisor told me this yesterday afternoon (after midnight). My coworker and I have had a couple of brief contacts the last few days. I've scheduled to get tested myself this morning. My wife is high risk. I'm feeling sick to my stomach from anxiety. I keep thinking about the worst scenarios.

I have learned that there is always time to panic when it is time to panic.
Just do everything you can to minimize the risk in the meantime.

I'm in the same boat. My wife has been sick as a dog for a few days. I've also had symptoms, just not as severe. We both got tested for COVID yesterday afternoon. She is also high risk. I'm also very anxious. Hope everything works out for you and yours.

I just came out of a quarantine due to my husband’s exposure to a co-worker. I am also at high risk. It was gut-dropping scary. We can’t get tests here due to the rules: you have to have symptoms before you can get a test.

My heart goes out to you and your lovely wife.

I wish you and your wife healing, regardless of the results.

I had COVID19 in March. It lasted 3 weeks. Luckily for me, it manifested like a mild flu.

I’ve had very mild residual effects..but I’ve lost 10 pounds recently, and presently walk 7.5 miles a day.

What I feared was the Unknown.

Never had a positive test, but I did get a positive antibodies test.

We at WP will be here for support.

I took the test an hour ago. Stuck the same qtip up both my nostrils for 10 seconds each. It was...unpleasant. I heard the tests used to be worse, a couple of inches up nose instead of just ~1. 8O. I wont get results for 24-48 hours. Just gotta remain calm for now. Not allowed to go back to work for now.

@Pepe

Thanks. I've been trying to regulate my thoughts. I was on the verge of a panic attack when I started this thread.

@Steve1963

I hope everything works out for you and yours as well :(

@blazingstar

That's terrible and really scary. I'm glad it worked out. They weren't going to let me get tested until after my coworker tested positive and then reported that we had had close contact (within 6 ft) for more than 15 minutes to the contact tracing program. I doubt he would have said we had. The lab we work in has no air circulation, just a single AC unit. After a lot of phone calls, I was finally able to get a test without meeting the 'proper' criteria.

@kraftiekortie

The Unknown is the worst. I hope your residual effects go away, I've read some people struggle with those for very prolonged periods.

Our state and campus is a hotbed right now, going to the grocery store has become unnerving. Lots of the younger college students have been being really poor community members.

It was unpleasant, but not too bad. You get your results much quicker than I do -- 3-5 days. I probably won't know until next Tuesday what with the long weekend in the US. Again, hoping you, like me, are negative.

I am not going to say anything about this.

I lied. :mrgreen:
The attitude of a lot of young people is disgusting.

Yeah, and skrew other people. :roll:

The initial severe lockdown, here in Australia, was sparked by predominantly "people" (I use the term loosely) under 30. :roll:

A couple of brief contacts with your coworker might not be enough to get you infected. I'd need to know more about your work environment. I have to assume you and he were both wearing masks at those times. How did she get infected? Probably at some sort of party.

My son is a resident at a hospital and had to examine a patient for a dental problem. He did that for 15 minutes. I have to assume he tested negative, anyway that was a month ago and he's not sick.

I've had a couple covid tests done a while back... Q tip up the nose isn't a pleasant feeling... But I was negative. Good luck.
