I read the article but did not make much of it,not sure the point really was other than overly youthful gay men having parties in support of Trump.

There was some college party up in Maine that supposedly did much to spread Covid too.

COVID-19 parties, chickenpox parties etc. exist and have existed.

I had chickenpox in maybe 1983 but in my life have never heard of a chickenpox party,I must be getting old.

Chicken pox parties were mostly in the old days, parents arranging it in lieu of a vaccine. It's better to get chicken pox young rather than getting it as an adult. Once you have chicken pox, that's it, me and you can't get chicken pox anymore cos we've got the required antibodies so we won't die of chicken pox. However, it's even better to just get a vaccine before having it at all...

With coronavirus, it doesn't work like that. We don't know the risks and I'm pretty sure there's been reinfections etc. So if his logic is 'get it as a young fit healthy guy then don't get it as an old man', he's wrong. We should be waiting for a vaccine.

It's people who are pretending the virus isn't real. I see it a lot on social media, it's a problem. People who want life to go on as normal. I think it's a psychological defensiveness.

Imo people should avoid the virus as much as they can. If you're autistic & mask exempt - go out less, order groceries etc online. If you're NT & otherwise non-exempt and have to be out for some reason - wear a mask. If you're autistic and can possibly wear a mask*- do so. If you're NT and can possibly avoid mixing face to face (for eg... not having a party in the middle of an epidemic...) do so...

Having parties right now in order to deliberately spread the virus or protest against small changes to society during the pandemic seems incredibly dangerous.

Of course, there are dangers to the whole lockdown thing. So it's weighing up risk factors - for eg there's a political discussion to be had about furlough versus sick pay versus going to work right now. Or people (esp NTs) are getting lonely indoors and that's bad for mental health - so it's finding healthy ways around that. But there's not a 'let's go have a party' option... That's plain irresponsible.

* For me it took 2 masks. First one wasn't good on a sensory level I tried another one and I'm 'ok' with it although it's not perfect for me on a sensory level so most of the time I stay at home or out in the open.
