Derek Chauvin, the police officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck, was released from custody on Wednesday (7 October 2020) on a $1m conditional bail. The conditions of his bail, reduced from $1.25m, specify that he refrain from contacting Floyd's family, surrender his firearms and not work in law enforcement or security before his trial.

The three officers charged with aiding and abetting Chauvin were also previously released on bail—two in June, the other in July. They are due to be tried from 8 March 2021.

Well the point of having bail be so high is that the defendants are not able to pay it, but I guess Chauvin has a million dollars to lend out, or someone footing his bill does.

well I guess that is the point of bail, that if you charged with a crime, you can be let out, until the trial. Would it be better if we had no bail at all, of course?

Yeah perhaps. I wonder if they have to wear electronic monitors that will go off if they try to leave the jurisdiction or remove the monitor...

one would hope so but i suspect they'll get a special deal where they don't have to agree to electronic monitoring.

The implication here is that you have already found them guilty?

I doubt they will get off scot-free.
What do you believe they should be indited for? 8)

Speculative. But I think a person would have to be crazy to give a million of their dollars to the court, to help out a defendant they don't even know, or is not a close friend if this was the case.
