You may like this. I Cyndi Laupers singing. She is incredible and fun to watch too! I was told in her earlier years twice she was told she could never sing again after medical related issues (Can't remember why). Yet she has now passed 70 and she still sings as well as she did when she was younger! And something to add. I have never seen her mime. Every performance is different even of the same song, and every one sounds great!

Something about Cyndi is she is a three dimentional performer in that she puts so much feeling into her songs and her songs are so varied.

Former US Senator Al Franken had once a very interesting soliloquy about Cyndi Lauper in a book about politics from decades ago. He said that in the early 1980's if he'd placed a bet upon the new mega trend in female artists/singers, he would have bet on Cyndi Lauper rather than Madonna. He went into eloquent detail about why he felt this way, and while both of them have enjoyed international success and acclaim in the decades since, Madonna was definitely far more than the "new flavour of the week" shooting star, as opposed how he felt from his initial impression of the two artistes. As for me, I've never been a big fan of Madonna, but I've always loved the music and career of Cyndi Lauper. She brings far more to the table than simply erotica and electronica. It's hard to find an artist or a band capable of evolving their sound and public image consistently, rather than simply reinventing themselves occasionally to meet the changing times.

There is a difference between the two. Madonna did what she was told and the record producers "Owned" her and promoted her sex appeal to sell records. Cyndi was happier to do her own thing and let her records sell by themselves. She did once try to go down the road that Madonna had done but Cyndi much preferred doing her own thing so she quit the contract so she could be free to explore her own music that she and the various people she was with wrote. Most of her work was hers, but she could turn to sing just about anything, which was unusual to have someone who can do this.
Cyndi respected others like Madonna and did not see them as competition but as friends. She got on well with Boy George when he went over to the USA as at first he was not welcomed. One of her friends was Debbie Harry (Blondie).
The good thing about Cyndi is she stayed with her roots. Fame did not change what she sang. She sang because she wanted to sing and enjoyed it. It is her world.
I would say that Cyndi Lauper is quite likely to be on the spectrum because I can tell her humour is a mask. If you watch clips of her on the chat shows from the past, you maybe able to see what I can see. I notice because I often mask in the same way. A sort of "Acting thick" mask when one really is pretty intelligent behind the mask to pull it off so effectively.

{Cyndi. If you are reading this, I mean it as a compliment and not in a bad way. You may not even realize why you have been masking in this way. It is a self taught way in which you can connect with others who communicate on a different wavelength to how your mind thinks}.
