I used to when I was young, but not these days.
I haven't been depressed for over 30 years now.

No I think I eat a lot when I'm happy. What do you guys eat when you have low energy? I cook most things from scratch and cooking takes a lot of effort and organization. I suppose there are things like chips, cookies and granola bars but my body can't take them. My stomach would kill me if I eat those things.

I know eating (especially carbs) increase serotonin so it's probably an automatic defense.

Good food is one of my few pleasures in life.

I am a fan of keto paleo and I find that loading up on certain fats (omega 3 or MCT for example) is beneficial when my mood is low.

I avoid sugar and too many carbohydrates as I can tend to find they make me not only hungrier but more depressed as well.

I sometimes gain a few pounds. More exercise is a great way to reduce depression.

I’m the oddball who doesn’t. I’ve had varying levels of depression for approximately fifteen years and have never had a problem with overeating or weight. I get no comfort from any kind of food.

Someone once remarked to a fit friend that they were going to treat themselves to a cookie for having done a good job. "Don't reward yourself with food," he replied "you're not a dog."
To adjust my weight, I just change the amount of hunger it takes to get me to cook.

I tend to not eat at all, if I’m down.

I believe people call it "comfort eating". Eating brings you easy pleasure, easy due to how easy most people find obtaining food.

Where people's tastes change between individuals.
Classic comfort eating types of food:

Potato Chips (what people in the UK call Crisps)
Chocolate
Biscuits
sweets
ice cream
cake
pastries
cheese
pizza
sugary soda

All the types of food that make you put on weight.

Also, the reason why some antidepressants make you put on weight, is because they stimulate the serotonin production (among other Neurotransmitters).

serotonin is the neurotransmitter that makes you feel happy, which if kept to an optimum with antidepressants, will give you less control over your eating, as you will look in the mirror and will ignore if you are gaining weight as you are happy regardless as to what you look like.

When you are happy, people tend to care less about their weight.
Not always but mostly.

Probably.

And I eat worse when I hate myself.

Which is a cycle.

Depression impacts my appetite, but the impact isn't predictable. Sometimes I won't eat for days, other times I'll eat anything that can't outrun me.
