Which parts? The descent routine was quite complex and landing in Martian atmosphere is generally tricky - it's too thin to easily slow the lander with parachutes but too thick not to interfere.
It is complex only in timing and execution. Otherwise, it is mostly computers, cameras, servos, and rockets. It is not too dissimilar to some of the equipment I have worked on in both the civilian and military contexts. It is just faster, higher-quality, and more expensive.
