1. That I live in a rural or small town.

I think this partly comes from the fact I live in Texas. Even though I live in Texas, I don’t live in a rural or small town. I actually live in a city that has a population of 74, 762 people. It has more to offer than a rural or small town since it has two cinemas, a shopping mall, a bowling alley with other games in it as well as a large jungle gym on the outside, a go kart track in the mall, walking/dog parks, and a new comic book shop came up after the first and for the longest time only one closed back in 2013. However, things like Wal-Mart and Target and fast food as well as general sit down restaurants still reign supreme when it comes to shopping and food. There are also no music clubs and the only places that do live music are at one of the northern parks, the cultural activity center, a “Irish pub” that’s really just a sports bar with a flashy theme, and a restaurant with a piano but unless you like country music, covers of rock music you’ve heard countless times, or religious music, it won’t be for you. The bars also smell bad due to spilled beer, cheap cigarette smoke in the air, and urine splashed on the ground from the drunkards who can’t control their bladders. Hoping to smoke weed and listen to stoner music? Forget it, especially the latter because the bars only play country music. There are also countless churches and people generally identify as being Christian and you will get stunned expressions if you don’t identify with the Christian faith. There is a Hindu temple and a building that functions as a mosque that are both on the outskirts of the city but the Hindus and Muslims tend to stick among members of their communities. There is no real counter culture here.

2. That I just stay in my room and on the internet all day.

I have a job so I can’t stay in my room all day and I get out almost every day or else I would be even more depressed than I already am. I don’t currently have a PC and my laptop is painfully slow so I rely on my iPhone for internet usage.

3. That I don’t even try to socialize.

This just isn’t true at all. I go out almost every day and I’ve done things like talking to people at the video game stores, the book store in the mall when there was still one, and Starbucks but besides getting a friend (A woman, by the way.) who is now an ex-friend from the book store, making new friends was unproductive in those endeavors. I also used to be a part of an Autism/Aspergers support group and used to hang out regularly with some of the people in it but I now only keep contact with two people in it because the others I either stopped meshing with or was incompatible with others. I also used to attend a Meet Up group from 2016 to 2019 and they were supposed to be about science fiction and gaming but many of the events would devolve into drinking fests and sometimes hostility. I stopped going because I got tired of constantly being pushed to the wayside and the group leader’s girlfriend chewed me out for something trivial which was the last straw for me. I hang out at my friend’s comic book store sometimes and socialize until I feel like I’ve used up my social energy and return home. I recently tried another Meet Up group but the same problem that plagued the other one has infected this one so I am no longer going to attend it.

4. That my job is peaceful and should be a hub for social connections.

My job is anything but peaceful. It’s quieter now but before the pandemic, it was extremely loud due to patrons talking on their phones, fighting with their kids, and arguing with each other as well as with staff members. The homeless would also get in fights with each other and now they are no longer allowed in due to complaints of them making the place stink as well as making others feel uncomfortable. It’s also common for patrons to look up porn on the computers and they will get hostile if they are caught. I’ve even seen teens try to look up porn on the kids’ computers. I am also not allowed to read on the job though the ones who enforce that rule will break it themselves. I also never see any ads for social groups unless they are for kids, elderly people, and religious groups.

5. That I don’t view women as human beings.

I find this to be very insulting as well as baffling. I’ve never once stated or even implied I thought women were not human beings.

I feel really drained right now.
