I used to have dreams about being a paleontologist and working at a big museum with fossils but others shot down my dreams.

Whereas now you're doing that for yourself?

Set manageable targets. I dunno how the info is arranged but break it down into smaller chunks and tackle one at a time.

At the end of the day, if you try the volunteering it could make a huge difference to your life. AAAnd even if it doesn't, you're no worse off than before. 50/50 better or stay the same.

Whereas if you stay at home it's 100% stay the same. Which you clearly don't like.

There's nothing wrong in only reading part of the information, either. When you go back, if anyone asks you can say, "Well, I've read some parts, but I haven't finished yet". Nothing wrong with that.

The whole plus side of volunteering is, you can do it at your pace. Just be honest and don't worry about it. This isn't a "Jump? How high?" deal, like a paid job might be.
