I have never dyed my hair, nor do I ever plan on doing so. I really liked my hair, it was a brown base with some blonde hairs and a glint of red when the light hit it just right, making for an overall appearance of a lighter shade of brown.
Pretty much everything I’ve seen/heard says that hair usually comes back darker after chemo, but mine is actually coming in lighter, as more of an ashy or “dirty blonde” color. I plan on just leaving it like that because what I really liked about my hair was having both brown and blonde together, not just the shade the combo gave, and I doubt that can really be achieved with dye.
My mom used to dye her hair more of a reddish color because my brother is strawberry blond through her side of the family, but her hair didn’t naturally say that that’s where the red came from. Since it turned gray/white she’s decided to have fun with it, dying it usually blue or purple.
