and the poor Spaniards targeted by the Franco people, their only sins were in not being financially talented [and unwilling to be put-upon slaves forever], so they were locked up, systematically starved and/or outright exterminated.

Pinochet and Peron carried that wonderful tradition started by Franco in Chile and Argentina.

which our right wing was behind, and which our right wing would institute here if only they could, and they're getting closer and closer to that goal.

Yes who could forget good old Ollie North.

The manner which Reagan avoided prison reminded me of the way Trump also skirted jail. Of course everyone remembers Ronnie Reagan's sudden bout of dementia which conveniently coincided with a investigation into his knowledge of the Iran-Contra affair.

That is ridiculous. The Civil Rights Act was not passed to keep up with the Soviets.

Was it passed in a vacuum? Certainly many factors played a role, but to pretend like America wasn't tired of Soviet criticisms that rang true wasn't one probably isn't grounded in reality.

Of course, to pretend it was entirely foreign pressure and not at all due to the work of American activists working to secure that outcome would be ignoring reality.

Civil rights leaders were able to pressure enough of America into realizing how it was failing in this regard that the Americans who resisted it couldn't stop it so they've just been working to erode that success ever since.

Those responsible for defacing statues have been identified

Their attempts to march in Philadelphia just thwarted by a mere 6-7 residents who angrily charged the nazis. The truck rental company, Penske, whom they rented to bring marchers into Philadelphia will be taking legal action amounting to 10s of thousands of dollars for innapropriate use of their vehicle.

I must say I enjoyed seeing them getting beaten up by "real americans"
