Explain problem with "Never Forget" on 9/11
I caught a Shiny Alakazam Pokemon (rare color) yesterday, the 20th Anniversary of 9/11... According to it's Pokedex entries, Alakazam "Never Forgets what it's learned" so I nam d it "Never Forget" and posted it in my group... Most people loved it, but I had a few cyberbully me over it saying they hated the name (though these people were over the top cruel too)
Anyway I need explanation on why "Never Forget" is emotionally charging to some people, if I knew that I wouldn't of posted it...

Foolishly, I'll try to give a concise answer.
I won't try to give examples, but many right-wing or otherwise anti-democratic (in practice) movements have been predicated on the basis of never forgetting some historical injustice, often centuries in the past.
In the case of 9/11, the attack was used to justify a number of government initiatives that are generally viewed as limiting Americans' freedom e.g. the PATRIOT ACT. If you emphasize the idea of never forgetting 9/11 (which does sort of imply a need to hold a grudge forever) you give the impression that you may be supportive of the sort of repressive measures I just mentioned.

Thank you!! ! Now I understand!! !
I wish the people in the group would've explained it to me instead of attacking, I didn't really know
I've had it happen to me a few times, accidentally using a charged statement without realizing what it meant... But it was an honest mistake, if someone would've explained it like that I would've understood.

Remember that time a US-backed military coup in a Latin American country assassinated its democratically-elected socialist leader and replaced him with a mass-murdering fascist puppet?

I'm wondering how American schools teach that historical event.

I'm wondering how American schools teach that historical event.
The same way they teach most of their most shameful acts.
They don't.

I was actually hoping an American would answer that from experience. I'm American but I was already out of school when this happened.
Well, it is a little insensitive, because a lot of people died that day.
Me? I don't get offended easily.

Very True.
That said the vast majority of time it meant to say do not get complacent, or as in this case don’t forget about the dead.
Problems with literally never forgetting horrible events is it bad for your mental health and as we have limited time here on earth we should make as most of it as enjoyable as possible.

Well, I think it means more like "Remember this, so that it never happens again."
And maybe a little "Never forget the brave fire fighters, police, and other people who came to our aid that day, and maybe lost their lives in the process."
