What is it like?

What are you good at?

What are you bad at?

That's not a very good question. Probably none but a few of the most conceited people would actually call themselves an actual genius...and even then they might not actually be. Even if someone was and knew they where, it's usually not a good idea to identify yourself as such.

Not me.

I'm just one of those spiky profile types.
Not sure how much my nonverbal aptitude outweighs my verbal aptitude.
Not necessarily genius level I'm sure, only that it is outweighs where it mattered.


However, I know some people who are dubbed as a geniuses.
One of the closest I've known was depressed, anxious, burnt out before 25 and would rather be an NT.


And I had received many cautionary tales about having intellectual giftedness and being labeled as genius or gifted -- from professionals, people who personally have it and those who live with them.

So I do not see the hype or association with scoring high in IQ tests.
And competence porn is just entertainment.

This is an interesting subject. My IQ has been tested with results in the 140 to 170 range. There is some variability as to how these scores relate to a percentile ranking. In addition, I suspect that attempting to wrangle a fractional percentage resolution for such a difficult subject to measure may be ultimately unhelpful.

Your question about what someone is good or bad at focuses on performance. It may be a reflection of a materialistic society that measures most things in terms of how much money one can make, that skills are measured in terms of performance.

I see Aspergers as a result of a number of neurological variants that present with some common characteristics. However, within this grouping are manifest differences such as various sensitivities. In a similar way the neurological variants (often overlapping with Aspergers) that manifest as high IQ also have variability. Some may have memory assets while some others might have more vocabulary assets.

The tasks that a person might excel in with memory assets could be different than the tasks that one with vocabulary assets would.

The word "genius" is also interesting. It is often associated with IQ, however, we generally consider it in a performance context as something singularly unique. Edison is one who looms large in this arena. However, upon closer examination, he might be seen in greater detail as one not so high in IQ, but rather driven by obsession and even paranoia and exploiting the utility of patent attorneys.

While I have a higher IQ than most, I would not consider myself a "genius" as I have not accomplished anything singularly unique. Perhaps it is Aspergers, but I find comfort in avoiding prominence. As a Christian, I find the pursuit of wisdom much more rewarding. IQ like height is biologically derived. Wisdom is available for accumulation and I have found is ultimately much more advantageous.

I was dubbed genius as a child. The feeling is - pressure. You're always singled out and expected to perform extraordinarily. And your guts explode whenever you're not living up to the label - which is simply impossible, especially under so much pressure.
Unstable sense of self, unhealthy relations with others, impossible expectations and pressure.
It was great to grow out of it and learn to define myself in other ways.

Nope. Not a genius.....never thought of as being a genius....

Except sometimes in elementary and junior high school....not by any teacher.....but by some students. It caused me to be bullied, mostly.

In the original, Roman, use of the word a genius was a guiding spirit. So if a person was particularly good at mathematics, they'd be said to 'have a genius' for it, rather than 'be a genius'.

I've always preferred that way of using. I imagine it would take some of the pressure off having an outstanding natural ability for something, to externalise it in that way.

No, I'm no genius. And I have no outstanding ability that has yet manifested.

Before you ask "are you a genius?", You have to define "genius" in an objective way.

But, discrimination or not, you can't measure intelligence without bias.

Everyone has subconscious biases

There is no objective way to define "genius", but there are official ways, such as Mensa membership

Not a genius.
However I am pretty good at IQ tests, I usually score around 150.
I am also fairly good at presenting complicated stuff with hand drawings, simplifying to a reasonable degree but getting the geist of it presented.
I also have a, sometimes selective, excellent memory; I can remember the exact phrase someone used 10-20 years ago, or details in an exhibition or whatever.
What I suck at is sensing other people, knowing when not to talk to much/when to talk more, determening if people like me or not und so weiter.

I'm not a genius at all and the only thing I'm really good at is memorizing facts. I could have gotten good grades in school, but it took a lot of focus and some executive functioning skills that I just didn't have.
