1)...The Question?

Am I being overcritical of the South?

2)...Statements by Ghosthunter!

I found the place very clean! And due to
little, or no sleep during the 3 nights and
4 days on a Greyhound mismanaged bus
service(it should have only took 2.5 days)
I was a bit tired to make any proper observations.

I did eventually check in for a week at the
Best Value Inn, 1401 Washington Center Rd,
Fort Wayne, Indiana. Since you need a car
to really get around here Pyraxis drove me
there.

What is great about it is it cost less than
$200 for a week and was more like a suite,
fridge, couch, large bed, microwave, small
closet, and good sized tub. This would be $300
per week in a Sun-Thursday package at
Reno. What makes it cooler is it has wifi!

The upper area is nice, it tends to attract
chain outlets, a Starbucks and other options
that are miles apart in stripmalls. Let's call
this "new town-fort wayne".

There is a borders nearby and it is way out of
the way, but fast food and grocery stores are
well numbered in availability!

Hmmmm? They seem to be in a festive mood
here recently. There is a carnival theme
going on. It is in their main Park, (I forgot
it's name) and much amusement park rides,
and games associated with a festive scenerio.

This event is in Headwaters park. It has rides,
food, and draws alot of people. Hmmmmm?
Is it summer round, or a few days only?

This is the old ways and new ways co-existing!

To get to old town from my lodging, you have to
walk down Lima rd for 40 minutes. Down this road
you have mostly freeway type roads and see car
lots. but....after a while before it forks into
clinton rd you see b&w movie type southern houses
that have humongous yards. You also see "mayberry
USA" TV-land type gas stations. Think Andy Griffith,
and a young Ron Howard in a 60's-70's TV show.
It may have once been called the "Andy Griffith Show"?

You know fork into beautiful, and well sprawled lawn
houses. This is beautiful and what you see in movies
and postcards of "hi-here is where I visited" level.

Once you start to head to old town, the buildings get
dingier, and dingier. Office buildings, mostly well kept
become prominent. It amazed me on July10th,
Saturday the foot traffic was not existent. Yes! you
could say it was due to the carnival event! but my
instincts say no, since there are abundant amounts
of people harbouring at borders and the coffee shops
of new town.

She and I are skinny. Is that a autistic thing?

She wears glasses that are small and rounded,
I wear squared and rounded glasses that too are
small.

She expresses well on paper and computer screen,
but just like magic, she isn't expressive in outwardly,
and I could easily overwhelm her.

In the next few days, I will add some more highlights,
and since I haven't really explored Fort Wayne much
until I have access to a car that Pyraxis drives, I will
let other events take their course.

Hmmmmmm?

I don't think you have been over critical of the South. I think you have been very honest and candid, as well as entertaining!

The Three Rivers Festival is for a week every summer, so it lasts until next Saturday.

Actually, the festival means downtown is much busier than it usually is, cause everyone's come down to see it. So that should tell you something about how quiet it is normally.

What other parts of Fort Wayne do you want to explore? We have a zoo, parks, some museums, Laser Tag, and of course comic book stores. If you check at the front desk of the motel, there are probably some brochures advertizing other things to do.

Pyraxis,

I have a map and we can go through it to figure out
where these places are. I am very well aware of
how isolated this place is. I sympathise with you.

Intriguing! I have to walk 3 miles to a Borders! and
1/2 that is dirt walk ways.

Intriguing! It takes 1.25 hours to walk to the "Ghosttown"
call their downtown. The only saving grace is there
is some outlets available near the motel. Otherwise
I just stay in my room because I am stranded.

I did go to Walmart and get a pay-as-you go cellphone
and 100 minute card!

This way I can have accessibility to a job possiblity contact.
This is a functional purchase and allows me a phone
#, and since I have Wifi, I am mobility-wise setup!

Hmmmmmm? It's so dull here, I wonder what you will
do when the carnival stuff ends??????

Sincerely,
Ghosthunter

Gee, in my neck of the woods, when the carnivals, festivals and fairs end, we just sit around and watch the corn grow.

If you think Fort Wayne is dull, I can't imagine what you'd think of where I live in Indiana....it's at least twice as "dull" as Fort Wayne.

When I need to go to the store to get milk or bread, I have to think about whether it's worth making a 5 mile trip into town and if I want to see a movie or hang out at Borders, well that's over 15 miles away. Wifi? We barely have dial-up where I'm at.

I suppose I've learned to find pleasure in the simple things life has to offer. I can be just as content with nature as I was with running from place to place/event to event. My tastes have changed and simplicity is the key to my happiness now...I suppose that would seem dull to others but to each his own.

Ghosthunter, alas, I must sympathise with you.

Hmmmmmm? Do you still plan to have dinner with me
and Pyraxis?

Dial-up! Oooh God! Here's one for you. In lake Tahoe
1997. The California side had dialup longdistance! the
Casino side had dialup local call(motel, hotels....)

To get dialup you pay longdistance charged per minute!

Hmmmmm? Describe your dialup!

Hmmmmm? Are you 15 miles of Fort Wayne?

Sincerely,
Ghosthunter

GH,

I hope that when you get to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN) area, you have time to spend time in three areas: Minneapolis (more of a true urban feel), St. Paul (more old fashion charm) and the suburbs were I live (which I think you will hate)!

To each his/her own, huh?

It depends how one defines "Twin Cities." Generally, Minneapolis has a pop of about 450,000 people, St. Paul is at about 300,000 and the balance of the area has another 2,000,000. So about 2.7 million total.

It is generally considered the 15th largest metro area in the country.

The Bay area is smaller in population, and NY
is bigger! B.Area 1,000,000 in San Jose+
and San Francisco is almost 1,000,000 if you
include South San Francisco!

Hmmmmm? Twin cities sound big and confusing!

I've lived here so long it is no longer confusing, at least the south suburbs and St. Paul. I don't get to Minneapolis too often. <--that's unfortunate as I think that might be the area you like best. We'll have to make a point of trying to get there.

The different areas really do have a different feel. What I think happens is that one finds a place they are confortable in and then stays there on a day to day basis. Its never too far to the basics like grocery stores, coffee houses, schools and movie threathes.

Consider this...That is part of the adventure.
This adventure is not planned out properly
and rather sloppy, but that is how adventures
are sometimes more enliveing!

IT WILL ALL WORK ITSELF OUT! :D
