Remix name: One Day or Another
Original artist: Silent Theory
Remix by: Krystal M., Jennette M., Amber X.., Stacey J.
Internal notes: this song specifically has to do with the way nonverbal autistic people are treated in the mental health system. This song poses a question of “Have we (as a society and consumers of these services) had enough yet?” Regardless of who you go to for so-called help it’s bound to go sideways one day or another. These egregious actions by people who should be caring and understanding often have far-reaching consequences not only for the people they claim to help, but the advocates that fight tirelessly to ensure the safety and equal treatment of such vulnerable persons. This song was written with the experiences of myself and my advocates as the point of view. Hope this helps. My two lead advocates Krystal and Jennette are the two main forces behind this song, however myself and another advocate worked our hands off to clean it up and make it even better. Special thanks to friends and support staff such as Faith, Valarie, and others that have supported me over the years.

[LYRICS]

Have we had enough yet?

Are we having fun yet?
Have we had enough yet?
Repetition starting to get underneath your skin?
Let's all get antiquated dressed in thirty second grief
Only attend to the symptoms, not the person underneath
Please give us just one moment, just a chance to explain her needs
Not every autistic girl needs a needle in her thigh
Unless it's pressed upon the people acting like they know what's best
This is likely just the catalyst of what we can expect

So I guess this is what it looks like
Once the claims are clear
It's happening here and it's happening now and it's got us gripped in fear
So I guess this is what it looks like
Are we keeping score?
They abuse her and then make the claim that she got exactly what she asked for

Without a shadow of a doubt
We've lost ourselves
Take devices from her hands
It's what they do so well
Repeat what we see
Soon enough we just won’t matter
Make no mistake, it's bound to happen
One day or another

There might be something in the water
There might be cracks on our screens
Let's get a grip on the wheel
Right the ship we may still have a chance at the white whale
Abuse has a funny little habit
Makes the advocates consumed with rage
And honestly, if you ever ask me
I think that we should make this brief

So I guess this is what it looks like
IPads and restraint scars
Doctor’s notes ignored and phone calls on end, it's likely going to take it's toll
I guess this is what it looks like
Living under constant threat
We better deploy DVRs since
Who knows what comes next?
I'm asking "Have we had enough yet?"

Without a shadow of a doubt
They’ve lost their minds
Another girl who’s traumatized
This happens all the time
We need relief
Too bad we'll be six feet under
You can't escape what's bound to happen
One day or another

Escape the mess, the mess that we made
The mess that we made
Escape your shame, just blame it on me
Just blame it on me
Escape the mess, the mess that we made
The mess that we made
Escape your shame, just blame it on me
Quit blaming me!
