This is only a rumour, so don't get too excited. 8)

Biden reportedly considering axing Kamala Harris from the vice presidency
7 hours ago

Fox News reporter Chad Pergram says there are rumours within the White House that the Biden administration is considering finding a new Vice President, amid concerns about Kamala Harris’ plunging popularity.

“I got an email from someone who really knows this place very well. He said, Chad, start to familiarise yourself with the confirmation process, just not in the Senate, but the House for a Vice President,” Mr Pergram told Bret Baier’s podcast.

“Of course, we’ve not gone through that since President Ford picked Nelson Rockefeller.

“But I was very surprised to get that very cryptic email just a couple of weeks ag

It isn't that simple and not going to happen. The president does not have the power to fire his vice president. Congress can vote to remove the vice president, but its a high bar. Hence, I would suggest the rumors are false.

He can, however, choose to put a different vice president on the ticket if he runs for the office again.

These rumours have been around for a while (I seem to recall seing them from a reasonably reliable source around 6 months ago) - one reason for putting her in charge of the southern border was supposedly to associate what occurred there with her, as that policy area has the potential to do political damage to whoever is looking after it.

There's also this recent article:

Quote:
(CNN)Worn out by what they see as entrenched dysfunction and lack of focus, key West Wing aides have largely thrown up their hands at Vice President Kamala Harris and her staff -- deciding there simply isn't time to deal with them right now, especially at a moment when President Joe Biden faces quickly multiplying legislative and political concerns.

The exasperation runs both ways. Interviews with nearly three dozen former and current Harris aides, administration officials, Democratic operatives, donors and outside advisers -- who spoke extensively to CNN -- reveal a complex reality inside the White House. Many in the vice president's circle fume that she's not being adequately prepared or positioned, and instead is being sidelined. The vice president herself has told several confidants she feels constrained in what she's able to do politically. And those around her remain wary of even hinting at future political ambitions, with Biden's team highly attuned to signs of disloyalty, particularly from the vice president.

She's a heartbeat away from the presidency now. She could be just a year away from launching a presidential campaign of her own, given doubts throughout the political world that Biden will actually go through with a reelection bid in 2024, something he's pledged to do publicly and privately. Or she'll be a critical validator in three years for a President trying to get the country to reelect him to serve until he's 86.

Few of the insiders who spoke with CNN think she's being well-prepared for whichever role it will be. Harris is struggling with a rocky relationship with some parts of the White House, while long-time supporters feel abandoned and see no coherent public sense of what she's done or been trying to do as vice president. Being the first woman, and first woman of color, in national elected office is historic but has also come with outsized scrutiny and no forgiveness for even small errors, as she'll often point out.

Defenders and people who care for Harris are getting frantic. When they're annoyed, some pass around a recent Onion story mocking her lack of more substantive work, one with the headline, "White House Urges Kamala Harris To Sit At Computer All Day In Case Emails Come Through." When they're depressed, they bat down the Aaron Sorkin-style rumor that Biden might try to replace her by nominating her to a Supreme Court vacancy. That chatter has already reached top levels of the Biden orbit, according to one person who's heard it.

She's perceived to be in such a weak position that top Democrats in and outside of Washington have begun to speculate privately, asking each other why the White House has allowed her to become so hobbled in the public consciousness, at least as they see it.

Doesn't that only fix half of the problem?

No. Biden can’t “fire” Harris.

She can only be removed from office through impeachment, or a determination that she is mentally unfit for the job. The odds for either is at least a million to one.

I'm increasingly enjoying the conspiracy theory that Biden never actually forgave Harris for calling him a racist and a rapist during the campaign, and offered her the VP job as a poisoned chalice, it sure isn't looking like much of a favor to her at this point.

Rapist? Never heard that one.
Sure, she used the bussing thing to tussle with Biden during the campaign, but the whole point of choosing her was to demonstrate how he can work with anyone willing to work with him. And Biden is an O.G. politician who has demonstrated over the years he can do just that. Very different from the elected representatives and leaders of today who think gridlock is a badge of courage, while compromise - the lifeblood of American democracy - is somehow an act of cowardice.

I believe that was in relation to Tara Reade, and Ms Harris's lack of any real support for, or denial of, her claims:
Quote:
Harris was asked about Reade’s allegations in a San Francisco Chronicle podcast interview on April 17.

“Listen, this woman has a right to tell her story, and I believe that, and I believe Joe Biden believes that, too,” Harris said. “I've spent my whole career fighting like you said, Joe, to give women a voice, and this brings up I think a bigger structural issue frankly, which is that women must be able to speak without fear of retaliation.”

She stressed that she spent “the bulk” of her career fighting against abuse of women.

“On the issue of Joe, I mean, I can only speak to the Joe Biden I know. He's been a lifelong fighter in terms of stopping violence against women,” Harris said. “She has a right to tell her story, and she shouldn't face any repercussions for that, but the Joe Biden I know is somebody that really has fought for women and empowerment of women and women's equality and rights."

Harris’s office did not respond to a request for comment about her opinion on Reade’s allegation in light of the Larry King video and corroboration from a former neighbor and former colleague.

Given the "qualified support" for Mr Biden (she was walking a fine line between "believe all women" and possible selection to run for Vice President alongside him), some interpret her comments as being dismissive of Ms Reade's claims, whilst other note that there was no repudiation of the commnets, and so interpret that to be Ms Harris acknowledging their truthfulness.

From your own link:

Quote:
Rather, she has been critical of Biden’s position on busing to integrate schools and comments he made about segregationist senators, and she has said that she believed women who accused Biden of making them feel uncomfortable.

I'll cop to a little hyperbole there, but I'm not making anything up (unlike some people here), Harris absolutely did shade him as a possible racist and sexual abuser.
