Help, my aunt has been tested positive for covid and is really ill with it. She's only had 2 jabs and was going to have her third this week but had to cancel it because she's obviously self-isolating. She has no underlying health issues but has a really bad cough and can barely move. It's not like her to be ill like this. She's in her 60s.

If she'd had her third jab already would she have been this ill? I'm just terrified for my boyfriend, as he's very vulnerable and although he's had his third jab he still might be at risk of getting ill because covid usually affects the lungs and he has COPD and coughs an awful lot anyway.

It seems impossible to avoid even if you're doing all the right things and keeping away from people. People are coming down with it left, right and center. It's only a matter of time before it's our turn. I just hope my boyfriend will be OK.

What if my aunt gets worse and worse and has to go to hospital? I've lost my mum, I don't want to lose an aunt as well. It seems that there are still lots of hospital cases of people that are vaccinated. Is there any reassuring evidence that the vaccines are working for the over 60s and the clinically vulnerable????

I'm sorry your aunt is sick, Joe. You've really been through a lot lately, and this sickness is tough for anyone. I've known vaccinated people who have been sick, both over sixty and with health conditions. The vaccines do work, but are not a guarantee. It seems they help decrease the severity of the illness, so that is good news, and you probably don't need to worry much. It sounds like she has done everything she can, as have you. Unfortunately, many other people in society are not fulfilling their own responsibilities.

I hope she feels better soon.

Do you see her on Zoom?

I hope she gets well soon!

Booster doses are designed to make up for the immunity decreasing over time so yes, third dose should have made it milder. I hope she gets well soon anyway!
