Do any of you find it difficult, if not impossible, to perform within a work setting or social settings, under pressure?

I know it's a question that can mean a broad set of things when it comes to the word "pressure", so I'll try and pinpoint what sort of situation I'm referring to.

Say you'd spent a long time in a low-stimulus or low-stress environment, and you were then confronted with a request that to others would seem simply "everyday life", would you suddenly feel under a lot of pressure? Possibly because you'd been out of the "loop" of everyday difficulties and challenges?

I feel comfortable at work because I work freelance, at home. I set my deadlines and my bosses don't call often. Perhaps that's the best work situation for an aspie.

But I do feel under pressure sometimes. Today, as soon as I started eating my breakfast, my dad started asking me questions, lots of questions, and many of them meant the same, which is very confusing and annoying. It was like:

-I found this piece of cake in your desk.
(as if I didn't know I had it)
-Is it still good? Is it too old? How long have you been keeping it?
(three questions looking for the same answer, that's inefficient)
-Your pants are too big for you. Where did you leave your belt?
(none of his business, it's my belt)

find a job doing fast paced, repititions activity where u can sometimes keep to yourself. I found such a job, and cause im so fast and efficent (i keep my priorities in constant order, i feel i am the only person their who works efficently) as a result, i have the power to come and go, take breaks when I want, choose overtime or not, choose when i wanna work by myself or with others, choose loads i wanna do, and was able to become certified to drive a forklift through my company, now im making good money, its comission, but $15-$20 an hr isnt too bad, it fluxuates, and i can have plenty of time off during the winter when we are slow.

Their is really much we r good at, u gotta find where u fit in, itll be rough at first, but trust me, we have the capibility to exceed others productivity due to our lack of wanting to socialize and ability to be efficient. I dont think many autisitc ppl could handel working where I do, wayyyy to much going on, too much vehicle traffic, chaos, ect, but years of practice in social settings (and some pain medication to calm me down) and im good to go...

we all have the capability to do well, build a future for ourselfs, its just more of a challenge for us...

Strange, I can handle some kinds of pressure but not others.

Exams were never a problem, just give me an answer sheet and a pen and I'm off.

Stressful situations where someone sets a challenge are normally handled quite well. When I did my degree I was offered that chance to do the course in three years rather than four because I already had a good grounding in the subject. The challenge was accepted and after three years of sixty hour weeks I got my degree.

However...........

Put me in a situation where the workload is so heavy that either a) jobs don't get done properly or b) I have problems deciding which task is the most important and I'm likely to crash and burn. Twenty five years ago when I had a nervous breakdown one of the causes was diagnosed as 'pressure of work'.
