A lot of people that have good relationships are not dependant on a 'line' at all! They meet through family or friends and there is no constant variable of what sort of trust can be given to a total stranger. A man rarely thinks a woman will molest/assault him, but it is foremost in a woman's mind (or should be if picking up strangers) and a 'line' is all we have to go on of COURSE there is far more at play here than the 10% of the message that is the 'line'.

We have to remember the reason for the line - lack of a social network that frames the initial encounter! We are asked to trust on a whim. All of us, because if that line worked on ME, then you would have a tiger by the tail and NOT what you thought you were getting when I sat there in my pretty package. (Just ask my former lovers/husbands)

OK, now I have to get ready for work, do you guys work the swing shift? or what?

Heh, I just had real bad insomnia last night, still up from one o'clock yesterday afternoon but on the bright side I still had a great day at work and the moods still holding over.

I hadn't heard of this "pick up line" concept before seeing this thread. I am surprised that things like that actually work. I thought getting relationships was more about being attractive and having lots of money.

I think that people using "pick up lines" generally have more deplorable intentions than you assume.

well, we DO assume a smooth line actually displays rather than conceals an attempt to seduce
and then toss away like so much kleenex. . .

that is usually why they don't work. . .men mostly wanted me to have a life running along side of theirs. . .

I wonder if DataSage is really the God's gift to women he says he is? I find it somewhat unlikely, given the kind of statements he's been making (unless they are a joke - I think they are too over-the-top to be anything but).

Here's another that isn't complicated; I'd say it's as polite as any that could be used. I said this to one as we were parting after a nice chat session at a party:

"I really like your company. Can we get in touch again some time?" [He passes her his personal info]

I've found that threats seem to draw
MORE interest. For example, when dancing
with someone (going a bit too far perhaps),
she leaned back to me, and rubbed against
whilst showing me her neck. I told her "Don't
tempt me," with clear warning in my voice,
and she tried pushing it further.

Not enough to stick around until I was done
dancing though.
