Hello. I am an adult with classic autism who lives in the USA, and I live a life subsidized by government aid. My (divorced) parents can afford to take care of me.

A lot of people believe that because my parents can afford to take care of me, I should not be allowed to receive government aid. This opinion forces me to out my parents as controlling and abusive narcissists (who I am unwilling to speak to) as part of my normal life, in self-defense.

If people could just leave me to live in peace with my government subsidies, I could heal and possibly later forgive them, but INSTEAD I have to live with constant pressure to get off aid (or to get MORE help, depending on who's looking), which for me means going back to family. As though I were a child. As far as I know, my family doesn't want this outcome for me, either.

I am a developmentally disabled adult, NOT a child. I have the full rights of any other citizen, plus additional protections under the law, and I am allowed to live alone.

If you think my attorney father should pay for my food, phone and health insurance, then please go tell DHS to sue him in civil court.

If you think I should be getting more than I am because I'm disabled (even though the SSA determined on appeal that I am not disabled FROM WORK -- which would be true of I had the right supports), then you go work that out for me. I am not able to ask for more, because I am getting a lot already and I CAN earn SOME money.

Please leave me and people like me be. I am fine living alone with the (partial) support of government aid, and I continue to be unwilling to speak to my parents (or any of their people).

Thanks.

No shame in getting help when you need it! Once we are adults we are no longer our family's responsibility except out of love and caring. Legally we are responsible for ourselves. If one must rely on government support to survive, and help is available, there is no shame in taking advantage of that. Your paren'ts money is not your money. As an adult we are considered independent. Because one's family member or members have money, we are not entitled to a share of it. Glad you have gained independence. Cheering you on.

Your parents are not legally obligated to take care of you once you are an adult, no matter how much money they make.

You have the right to make your own decisions regarding medication, place of residence, etc.

Turn away these busy-bodies who think they know better than you do how to live your own life.
