What would you do if you saw a bear in the wild?

If I encountered an aggressive bear and was cornered I might attempt to wrestle it if I had no other means of escape.

You'd be ripped apart if you tried that.

I've read someone's bear encounter story. When she encountered a bear in a forest, she was able to scare it off by showing some aggressive/threatening gesture like a gorilla would do and shouting like an angry animal. She pretty much did it instinctively because she felt protective of her husband and child who were nearby. Then, she quickly ran away with them to safety.

Best bet is to go with a friend. If you see a bear, all you need to do is run away faster than your friend.

Ripped apart? Depends how big the bear is

Ye olde days: If threat, round through its brain and the rest heart area (COM). Depending on range, go to knife if it's not quickly stopped or doesn't flee and reloading isn't possible.

Now: If threat, KA-BAR is a play on, "kill a bear", after all. Expect to get wounded to some extent, if not severely. It'd be a more fair fight, though. Not a bad way to go all things considered.

I would do the smart thing and get away from it.

That is not a smart thing to do.  You would be killed and eaten.

A bear half your size would still be stronger and quicker.  It would also likely to be a cub, and where there is a bear cub, there is usually a mother bear who would not take kindly to to some hairless ape molesting her child.  You would be killed and eaten.

For a start… I’d find it difficult making eye contact with said bear and I certainly wouldn’t be able to engage it in a conversation… unless it was about my cigarette lighter collection…

To attempt to wrestle even a black bear-----would be really a stupid thing to do.

Article: Brent Kandra died at 1.31am on Friday morning at MetroHealth Medical Center in Ohio, around six hours after he was savaged by the bear on Thursday night.

Kandra was flown to the hospital from Columbia Station, southwest of Cleveland, after the attack at the home of Sam Mazzola, who runs World Animal Studios, and was confirmed as the owner of the bear by the local sheriff's office.

Your best weapon when facing a bear isn't your brawn, it is your brain. Better to outwit the bear and avoid conflict failing that run like hell, climb a tree or shoot it if you have a gun. Anything other than physically fight it!

^A bear can climb trees. You'd be doomed.

Bears are also scared of humans/other animals. If you can, you should take advantage of it. Like a pet dog that saved an old woman by barking fiercely at the bear that they encountered while taking a walk. The bear got scared and ran away. If possible, stay away.

Yell, thump, make noise, rise your hands and pretend to be bigger than you really are. Bears don't pick fights if they don't have to.
Unless the bear is eating a carcass. In such case, just leave silently.
Run downhill - the bear will have a disadvantage of worse balance.
That's from official advice of our National Parks.
