Those kinds of people will just find something new they don't like about you, even if you could go without glasses altogether.

Yes my thoughts exactley. I chose not to wear glasses 'socially' at the moment.

Most of my friends are actually well over 40. In fact the guy who makes fun of me for wearing spectacles is 65.

Old, immature as*holes with toxic attitudes probably aren't the best company. He's giving you grief for something kids were bullied for decades ago, he hasn't matured or acknowledge that society has changed around him since he was a small child. How f*****g pathetic.

One guy I know described him as a “wanker”

I'd say that's an understatement.
I don't go to bars because I'd be tempted to either lean-in or just smack the guy. I'm not suggesting this as a course of action though no matter how satisfying it might be.

I used to go to pubs and bars aged around 20 until I decided to rather focus on hiking and running and found better friends that way - people with an interest in health or nature who don't waste time with whether someone wears glasses or not, and accept everyone for who they are. There were certainly a few "eccentrics" especially in the hiking fraternity.

I know all about trying to fit in with work colleagues until I realised that I was developing a problem with alcohol and switched to healthier interests.

Also, you'll find better relationship material among people who have similar interests and like doing them together.

At the moment I go to the pub once a week on saturdays.

Is that bad?

No, that's OK. I thought it might be several times a week. Once a week isn't excessive. Just always be mindful of your surroundings!

You get glasses that automatically go dark when in the sun and look pretty cool. (transition glasses is the fancy term for them).

Wire-frame glasses tend to be less conspicuous....

I saw someone with a nice pair on today. They only had a part frame that went around the top of the glasses and no frame around the bottom. Yuhad to look twice to notice that he was even wearing glasses as the frame at the top kind of went along where his eyebrows were.

They call them semi rimless browline glasses apparently.

Yes, they're not likely to fall to pieces whilst they're on your face.
