Seriously, the whole world just feels like the bad ending to a video game. People can't really be that hopeful things will get better because it never does and we should just sit and hope the asteroids come and give us the sweet release of death from this hell.

Overall, by most measures of well being, life has gotten steadily better and better for the majority of people on earth over the past 70 years. Back in the early 50s, the infant mortality rate was still around 10% in Europe. Today it's less than that in the 3rd world. In the 70s and 80s there were mass famines. Today there are far, far fewer people in dire poverty.

The news and social media like to highlight stories that get people worked up about how terrible things are. If you listen to them, you'll just hear a drumbeat of negativity. And it's true that there are negative things--but there are also tons and tons of positive things that never get reported on, but are still true.

It doesn't have to be asteroids. A large-scale nuclear bomb would do. It's disappointing that Putin hasn't use one. Or maybe North Korea or something. I don't like wars but a quick and easy method of ending it all should be utilized.

I dunno. I'm always interested to see what's gonna happen next.

I've been on the brink of suicide before (many years ago) and it was hell for me. I can remember that could seriously see no way out of my situation. Then something happened and my life changed for the better so thats where I get my way of thinking from.

I see life as an adventure. Sometimes the going is rough and sometimes it's smooth.

Suicide is a waste. What does it accomplish?

Even people like Syrian refugees see hope. Or people living in the Horn of Africa (mostly Somalia). They don’t have the luxury to think dark thoughts; they’re too busy fighting to survive.

Not even during the Black Death, around 1350, when something like 40% of the European population perished (from the Black Death), did many people contemplate suicide.

They're not that depressed and don't have suicidal thoughts/tendencies, I suppose.

As others have pointed out, we live in the BEST most peaceful least violent times humanity has ever known.. in many countries, we enjoy the longest lifespans ever thanks to nutrition and modern medicine. (Lifespan is now declining in the USA.. thanks to lack of nutrition and medicine.) Fewer people die from violence than ever. We simply hear about every single gruesome death thanks to 24/7 fear porn being broadcast on TV/internet designed to keep you frazzled, fearful, and anxious so you're easily controlled & manipulated by governments and the corporations that want you to obey & consume.

There's Also a lot of real s**t going on in the world. War, climate change blah blah - but again - none of it directly affects a lot of us in the immediate moment and we really should just worry about what we can do & influence and try not to worry about what we can't. If humanity is on a collision course to get caught up in a mass extinction of our own creation, then that's what's gonna happen whether we stress about it or not.. so may as well just try to make the most of our time here and do things we enjoy, whether work, studies, sports/rec/play/sex etc.

Ending our time here short doesn't exactly achieve a whole lot of anything and ensures we won't be able to do any of the enjoyable things we're able to as living breathing humans.. everything from enjoying a good meal to travelling or helping someone out - can't do one iota of good or have any fun if you're dead. And thus MOST of us avoid death for as long as humanly possible.

Well the only reason someone would kill themself if it's not due to mental illness, would be if they think what they will face next is worse than death and even then not everyone would actually be able to do it.

Perhaps not enough people are directly facing a situation they feel is worse than death, so they see no point in killing them-self. Makes sense. Also, some people may want to stick around and fight against what they are facing or would prefer to flee to another state/country as that is less deadly than suicide usually.

There could be a lot of reasons

There is not enough information to determine the reason

I don't really want to die, I just want the bad parts of our world right now to end.

Even one drop somewhere of the largest nuclear bomb/warhead device currently available as far as I know would immediately blast only a fraction of a surface of the planet. It would have to be at least hundreds or thousands of the same devices evenly distributed and all detonated at the exact same moment to get the "gung-ho" kill everyone at once effect that seems to be implied by you.

If not, the rest of us will die more slowly and painfully afterwards.

Even people involved in historical oppression situations committed suicide because they knew that they were screwed-some of the Jews and later their Nazi sympathizer oppressors themselves during the Nuremberg trials because they'd rather die instead of face their cruel punishment.

Not that I condone Nazism or suicide, but there is some precedent in history.

The thing that hurts me the most is the lack of real life communities these days. I vaguely know my neighbours and locals, I've made a big effort to do so, but people are generally too busy online to actually talk to real people. I also live in a small, cliquey village where I'm 'the stranger.'

I have one husband, one daughter and one friend. That's all. No social network of support, which was awful when I was basically an invalid during pregnancy and then I had to look after a tiny sick child more or less alone. No one cared about us because I have no siblings, no parents, no uncles, aunts, cousins, friends. It made me re-evaluate my life and realise that only a couple of people care if I live or die.

Surely in the past people had big families, local friends and support networks? 21st century life is very, very lonely.

Putin says he's going to fire a nuclear bomb at Britain by October. I have mixed feelings about that, probably better that he does so and finishes us off instantly.
