And no tip.

I get no-tipped multiple times every shift, but this is on a whole ‘nother level. It was the biggest order I ever delivered. SMH.

Here’s where I get political: why did they conceive the idea that regarding the minimum wage, there should be exceptions for tip-based jobs? I get paid $9 an hour while in the store, but only $5 while I’m out doing deliveries.

I'm sorry that happened. :(

How does ordering work, there?

Here we order online and you have to add a tip or the order won't process.
It's normal to tip at least 20%, and usually 30%.

Deliveries are still no contact, so we couldn't tip with cash if we wanted to.

It’s pretty simple. You can either call or order online. Tips are optional even though drivers are paid poorly.

Are you in NY state? Bc a co worker told me that tips are mandatory there.

No, I'm not even in USA.

My pizza place charges tax, a delivery fee, and then the tip.
The tip isn't just a blank field that you fill in.
They give you a few choices of 20, 25 or 30% and you click one of them.

I haven't ordered pizza by telephone for many years.
Even then, they took credit card payments and tips by phone.

Drivers don't deliver unless the order is already paid.

Some states allow businesses to pay tipped employees below the minimum wage so long as the tips + the wage equal at least the minimum, a practice that I personally think should not be legal.

We rarely do delivery because of the "delivery fee" that gets added. It doesn't go to the driver (who use their own cars for delivery), & the company certainly doesn't have that much extra cost just because it gets sent out. So we save the tip & fee by picking up. It's also much easier to catch & correct errors on the food. (Who knew that ordering low or no sauce was that difficult to actually get correct!)

Something I don't understand; why are customers expected to tip? Why isnt the business paying for your gas? Why is it on us?

And yes we do tip but we often don't order pizza. And some places do add mandatory tips to your bill.

I despise tipping culture. You have my sympathies.

I would have been pissed!

You should have gotten AT LEAST $20 as a tip.

You were stiffed.

It’s not mandatory to tip in NY State.

I told you you have a sucky job. You can do better.

we actually do get .35 a mile.

I understand why you might think that the company should be paying us more, but there’s not much any of us can really do to change that. Customers can tip, however. THAT is in their control.

There’s lots of poor people in Iowa who cannot afford to tip. Then, there are the jerks who could afford to tip—but don’t.

I had a s**t job once. Some guy threatened to kick my ass. That made me seek a better job.

it might be different in England but people with jobs that involve tips(delivery drivers, waiters/waitresses, etc.)in the states generally get paid BELOW our federal minimum wage.

At least in the states, it’s generally considered poor etiquette to not tip. People not tipping when they get 15 pizzas is much worse.

If you can't afford to tip, why order take out?

Then I realized if you are disabled, you might order take outing you don't have the energy to cook or go out and buy groceries but you don't tip because of limited income. If this is Door dash or Uber eats, you are left with bad reviews and people can deny taking your request based in your rating. I am not sure how the app works. So this is how disabled people are discriminated in society. Unless you have a sign in your door saying your disabled and explaining your situation, you will get a bad review on your account.

I'm sorry you weren't tipped. I know how little delivery folks get paid, Plus all of the wear & tear, fuel cost etc. Unfortunately, tipping isn't mandatory anywhere in the US. Even if a restaurant tries to charge a "mandatory % tip. People don't have to pay it (unless they sign an agreement BEFORE ordering.)
