The colour wasn't vivd but it did work for me.

Its a very known visua effect. The colors that are there are the exact opposite of the colors that you end up seeing. Red is opposite to blue, purple to green etc. By staring for 30 seconds the cones and rods in your retina tire out and when that happens the opposite colors (that did not tire out) become active.

Its like staring at the sun and then seeing every where a big black spot!

it only takes me a few seconds to see the image in colour, though it's a bit dull.
