Yep, some sites take an active dislike to linking images like that.

I don't use images from the Google cache though, because it's a cache: what's here today is likely gone tomorrow (or even ten minutes later).

Instead, on an image search, having found the image and clicked on it to promote it as the target image on the search results page - I will then either click on it to get to the site's page Google found the image on and link from there, or the shortcut version is to right-click | open image in new tab on the promoted found image and then link what's on the new tab.
