republicans raised the debt ceiling a few times in the last handful of years to keep things working.
They're doing this nonsense on purpose to place blame on Biden/democrats. It's part of the deal with mccarthy made to get elected speaker. The maga/q-anon republicans traded their votes in partial exchange for blowing through the debt ceiling and blaming Biden/democrats for it.
The whole debt ceiling concept is stupid if they're just gonna keep raising it anyways. Just do away with any ceiling and carry on w/o the votes. Either go deeper into debt (republicans) or pay it down a bit (democrats) and just carry on without the existential crisis drama.
