The article focuses on programmers; but all jobs that can be done only within a computer screen (copywriting, graphic design, translation, bookeeping… etc), are at a very high risk to be replaced by AI.

If the number of jobs keeps getting smaller I wonder how many years it will take for the job centre to stop bothering people about not having a job.

Then how will people earn money if most jobs out there are going to be taken by stupid robots that don't need to earn money?

I've heard they're gonna do a trial run by replacing cleaners with them first.

In the UK we'll all get universal credit and cost of living payments I suppose.

There's an idea called universal basic income, it's basically free money for everyone.

When I first heard of universal credit I thought that far flung idea of universal basic income had come true already, but no.

I was on universal credit before and it was the poorest I had ever been in my life. And I don't want to get free money anyway. I want to earn my own money or at least be rich enough to not have to worry about money or work.
But what a stupid society to live in. Working class people being on universal credit because all their jobs are replaced by robots.

Wow the robots are mocking us ,they're replacing haters as well now!

To some degree the replacement already happened.

In the 90's there used to be loads of accounts assistant jobs where you take cheques out of the mail and match them up to invoices sent to that company. Those jobs seem to be gone as it's all automatic and done online.

So someone who could work in that field is now sitting at home or getting harassed by the job centre.

It used to be that most people were employed in agriculture. Now, it is less than 2%. And, most of us are overfed.

We went through the industrial revolution. After that, most people were employed in service industries. Now, the baby boomers are dying off. And, if climate change makes the world unfit for human habitation, then baby boomers might be the last ones on the helicopter out of Saigon.

Yup. Can't say I'm surprised, sci-fi writers have predicted this time and time again over the years.

It always seemed inevitable to me. Although I think we're forgetting -

Paul R Ehrlich wrote:

Yes, I see the irony in using this quote online. Still, it rings true. I think that automation and technology can be beneficial, but that we've gone to far - tried to fix problems that didn't exist and as result have created new ones for ourselves as a society.

The speed of this advancement has taken me by surprise. I knew it was only a matter of time, but I didn't know it would catch up so quickly. Human ignorance I suppose.

Another point of view: Why Chat GPT will NOT replace Programmers -- in an article generated by Chat GPT itself.

I think it's obvious that programmers need to stay on top of the best ways to use ChatGBT and similar tools to increase their own productivity. But I think it will be much longer than a few years before human programmers can be cut out of the loop entirely.

We should also note that programming and other tech jobs have long been prone to boom-and-bust cycles, as technology evolves. It's entirely possible that a new bust cycle is imminent. But it's also possible that many entirely new kinds of businesses will be launched, as more and more entrepreneurs learn better ways to harness the power of people partnered with AI's.

It looks like sex robots aren't really progressing.

Although, they are improving.

Education will be dominated by robots in the next 10-20 years. Assignment content can already be done by AI programs like chatGBT which write assignment reasonably good assignments.
