On Dad's side of the family I'm pretty much the only male who isn't a vet, thanks to my health being a bit messy from birth.

Think the last time either Dad or Mom's side of the family lost an immediate relative in combat was the Civil War.

One of Mom's uncles was captured by and escaped from the Germans several times during WW2 in Italy.

I have no children: of my brother's 3 boys only 1 is still in US Army, 2 have left, one with hearing damage, one with pretty serious PTSD.

While Memorial Day is technically about those who were killed, ALL of my living relative who are veterans have had their bodies damaged from being in the service and most of the now deceased ones did too. Damage ranges/ranged from that mentioned above, to spinal injury in a shipyard accident aboard a Destroyer in WW2, to having Agent Orange dumped on them, to gunshot wounds.

Being in the service will cost you, it is only a matter of, what price, exactly.

Okay, but it may sound like something from out of left field, it feels like you and Jakki are flirting.
