What were your childhood obsessions?

From what I can remember: Ghostbusters, TMNT, Outdoors, building forts, keys, abandoned buildings, astronomy, cap guns, the X files (it just so happened i was watching TV the night the pilot episode was playing, I beleive I was 11 years old. my neghboorhood,

It was not a special interest as a child, but I read somewhere 'Ghosts' or the paranormal

Well, i was 7 or 8 when I saw the saturday mounrning cartoon and movie, the ghostbusters, their was 1 scene, that scared me to death, the scene where 3 r in the old sewers in NYC and a bunch of ghosts heads appear floating in front of them. I was terrified, thinking this could happen to me I slept with my whole body, even head, under the covers and did this until about 9, a good year or 2. Perhapse, it could be a special interest, only in the sence it consumed every night of my life for 2 years?

Dinosaurs was the first one. Then that branched out to crocodiles/reptiles. After that I got really into pokemon and then pro wrestling.

Baseball cards. I didn't even like baseball, I just memorized the stats. I still have countless thousands. Books (I'm a booknerd), I have about 2,500. Video games! Approx. 300, and almost two dozen machines. Pencils, pens, paper, erasers, markers... yeah, stationery... and kitty cats.

I dislike the word obsession. It has a negative medical undertone - I prefer the term special interest.

My main special interests as a child were drawing, dogs and medical science.

Dinosaurs, football, Kurt Cobain. I used to collect old CDs, like the ones that came free with newspapers and the free trial discs.

I'm amazed you all had so many diverse "special interests".

I just loved lego, nothing else. Morning noon and night. Would love to call it a special interest lol, it was an obsession. Moved onto computers when I was about 11 and stayed there.

Over the years I have enjoyed other things, biology, psychology, economics, sociology, but would call them only mini "special interests".

I never took an interest in collecting things for some reason.

With lego and computers I could spend hours going into the details of it all. For example with a program spend hours on something fairly inconsequential just to make it right (it wasn't as important as the time I dedicated to it), same with lego. Whereas when I take up a subject I tend to take more of an overview with it, skipping over the details.

I Have Been Jolly with ALL of The Subjects but The McFLY Obsession Became Unhealthy So I Tried to Be Healthier About McFLY. But I Am Fine Now

Things shifted a bit when puberty came along

My obsessions were trees and plants (knowing them by their leaves), skyscrapers (such as which were the tallest), and music. I started collecting Classical music records when I was about 11 or 12. And, I could not resist the opportunity to join our church chorus when I was in 5th grade. Classical music has been my life-long companion. In high school, I began to become obsessed with UFO's and socialism (weird mix, huh?). I still am!! I always liked to read encyclopedias, dictionaries, and world almanacs. I was a real NERD--ha ha!!

Collecting shot glasses from around the country, collecting unsharpened pencils, cooking (I called it "experimenting"), The Baby-Sitters Club, Star Trek TNG, and chronic childhood illnesses. I didn't have a chronic childhood illness, but I read up on just about every one in existence.

I'm not sure if any of these things counted as "obsessions" (sorry if I offended anyone with the title to the thread ) but here goes:
ages 4-8 Star Wars
8-12-horses
9- current- reading.
I had quite a few mini-special interests, like reading encyclopedias, then doing book reports on the things that interested me just for fun. Making lists, and categorizing things was another one. As soon as I could read, and write I loved collecting written analysis on different subjects.

I had them at a very early age. I was obsessed with car washes from the ages of three to six. I begged my parents to take me in the car when they went through the car wash. I was also obsessed with musical instruments, especially drums for several years. Later I became obsessed with volcanic eruptions and other violent natural events.

This lead me to take an interest in storms (about age 7) which eventually lead me to the science of meteorology. I drew fictional weather maps and pictures of clouds with lightning bolts and/or funnels dropping out all the time. I still enjoy drawing diagrams and cloud illistrations. I made an oil painting of a large cumulonimbus cloud for an art class I took in college. Now I'm in graduate school studying atmospheric science. Don't think I could lead a happy life doing anything else.
