No beacon, emergency signal? If not, I'm guessing the technology went down. Terrible! Whatever happened, I hope at least there's no water pouring in. They'll just go to sleep at the bottom of the sea, that's some small consolation. Though admittedly not much...

What a horrible way to go.

It’s Possible that only the comms & beacon are down.. but more probable that the entire thing has completely imploded under pressure and everyone was crushed to death instantly. Such is the nature of physics at 4km below the ocean’s surface.

I read the article you posted, it did not indicate that this was a maiden voyage. Strange to implode if they've pulled it off before successfully, but possible.

An interesting detail to examine is that, ahead of the planned dive, one passenger recalled signing paperwork that read, in part, "This experimental vessel has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body, and could result in physical injury, emotional trauma, or death."

Sadly they have the same disclaimers on everyday medications. ^


I'm not known for claustrophobia but just the thought of that thing with five people in it gives me a panic attack.

I think it Would be a hella cool trip.. I mean, more difficult & exclusive to get to than low orbit outer space!

Super deep sea exploration would be the trip of a lifetime that's for sure.. but I'm not That Big of a Titanic/History fan to have the Titanic site itself be that alluring. I mean, bonus that it's the Titanic and it just happens to be sitting 4km down - at least there Is a famous "tourist attraction," destination to go to vs. just a trip 4km down in hopes of seeing Something and possibly only seeing pitch black darkness and whatever colour the light illuminates the seafloor.

So, I guess overall the Titanic IS a worthy destination for such a trip.. but it'd be even cooler if it was whatever the hell was at the bottom of the ocean in the movie The Abyss and you were guaranteed to see that!

Super deep, and even not so super deep, sea stuff is pretty wild. I've never been scuba diving but one of my brothers has and some others I know. It's a thing I think I'd like to do someday - even if it's just to shallow wrecks and some really colourful areas not too far from here that Look Like they could be in Australia or somewhere more tropical. It's just neat considering how little of the oceans' depths we, as humans, have ever seen. I get the appeal of spending $330k on a dive down to the Titanic if you have that kind of vacation budget and a sense of adventure/risk taking. Sucks theses folks probably all imploded, though. :/ Of course I Hope they didn't and they're all found alive, though!

I don't understand why submarines like this aren't fitted with scuttling charges.

I think I'd rather die suddenly without knowing about it than be waiting at the bottom of the ocean waiting to die. That is so scary. Unless you know there's definitely going to be help and you're going to be saved. But it's still scary. I'm having panic attacks thinking about it.

It also creeps me out.

If I had that kind of budget and weighed the risks, I think I'd choose space. I'd much rather blow up in the atmosphere. I don't want to implode in the deep, then have my minced flesh fed upon by sea life. And since I'm a natural pessimist, I'd go into it expecting never to return. Then, if I did return it would be like two vacations for the price of one. Ugh, those poor little rich kids. My heart goes out to them, their families.
