I personally don't have a pet, but I've received a petition from Care2 (which means it probably won't get much traction) that demands that for the good of all pets and all animals, to stop the sales of all Fourth of July fireworks to consumers, which is totally legal in literally every state, save for Massachusetts.

I understand the intentions of keeping animals, especially pets, safe during such times, but if the sales of all fireworks were made illegal in every state, then where could people go to see fireworks? Not everyone can go to see a well-done fireworks display.

I signed that petition a few weeks ago.

Lots of cities & counties have restrictions on the sale of fireworks now even if they are legal at the state level. Some towns have their own firework shows but of coarse lots don't & your right that lots of people are not able to travel to see firework displays. People can still watch firework shows online thou which I know is not the same experience as getting to see them in person but people do not need to see firework displays in person.

A lot of the restriction is about keeping people safe instead of caring about animals thou. When my dad was a kid a classmate of his lost some fingers making a bomb out of fireworks. There's lots of vids of people being very ret@rded with fireworks & shooting them at each other or accidentally setting things or themselves on fire with them. Fireworks have also been known to start wildfires. California often has problems with wildfires & my sinuses have been worse for the last couple weeks due to wildfire smoke coming from Canada so I think the public safety, health, & environmental risks are more important than allowing all adults to buy them just so everyone can see a firework show in person if they want.

Wouldn't one just purchase illegal fireworks, or import them from somewhere with more reasonable restrictions?

Depending where you live illegal 1s can be a lot harder to acquire. Lots of people won't bother driving hundreds of miles or paying someone lots of money to bring them over. There's a lot less fireworks in neighborhoods after they become illegal there thou some people will still use them.
