I know quite a lot of guys with ginger/red hair who don’t get many dates as men with dark hair. Dark hair colours like brown/black I thought would be boring or uninteresting yet guys with that hair colour seem to have the upper hand over red headed men.

So what are your theories as to why men with red hair don’t do as well? Red hair is much rarer than dark brown which would make it a more interesting hair colour.

Are you basing this on real evidence or personal observation only?

There was also a poll on the internet that said dark brown haired men get the most dates with blonde guys getting the least.

I doubt a handsome muscular redhead man who's friendly and outgoing is going to struggle to get dates.

If a guy can't get dates because of his red hair, there's a good chance that there are other more important reasons why he can't get a date. Maybe he's just ugly, or his personality is bad, or he's too quiet and shy, or his social skills are bad.

Blaming your lack of success with women due to your red hair is false. If you can't get dates, it's not because of your red hair. And even if red hair is a disadvantage in the dating market, it's fairly minor and one can make up for it quite easily.

There are more significant deal-breakers than hair color.

• An attitude of desperation.

• Disregard for personal boundaries.

• Excessive eye contact or staring.

• Loud, rude speech.

• Public drunkenness.

• Reputation for financial dependency on others.

How would you explain Ed Sheeran, Rupert Grint, or any of the others?

Cool, successful, famous, wealthy . . . even if red hair is a drawback, they have achieved greatness.

I'll seriously suggest that you try dying your hair dark brown & seeing if it makes a difference for you James. I know it'll be great if you could get a date soon after.

Which is more likely to happen to you?

I seem to be drawn to darker haired men (or grey) than blonde or red, but not because I choose to, it's just what I seem to be subconsciously attracted to when it comes to men.

I've probably fancied, oh let's just say, 60 men in my life (no I didn't date all of them, some may even be celebrities I've never met), and most likely more had brown, black or grey hair than lighter shades or red. My mum was drawn more to blonde or red haired men. My dad was red (although as he's gotten older it seems to be brown even though he doesn't dye it), but I didn't inherit the red hair gene.

There was also a poll on the internet that said dark brown haired men get the most dates with blonde guys getting the least.

I was engaged to a blonde boy when I was 6. The relationship went sour when he went through a “girls have cooties” phase.

I never did get that Winnie-the-Pooh plushie back.
