For women only.

I've had throbbing pain in one boob for months. It feels heavy and sore but not to the touch, just in general. There are no lumps and it's not red like inflammatory breast cancer. I'm not inverted. Texture normal. No heat. I get routine mammograms and I've never had a problem on them. My last one was in May 2022 and it was fine. My grandmother and my aunt both had breast cancer so I get mammograms more than most women my age, but it's still a concern.

I'm post-menopausal so it's nothing to do with my cycles. I'm not pregnant. I'm not injured. Actually I do have a breast injury but it's on the other one. The other one seems more at risk of having signs of breast cancer but it doesn't hurt, and my mammograms are clear on both sides regardless.

One of them just freaking hurts, 24/7, no matter what I do.

I'm seeing my GP but not until the end of next week. I want to know if this is normal or something I should be pushing for extensive testing. I have so many health issues I hate adding one more to the list or looking like a hypochondriac especially when I don't have any signs of cancer.

Another weird thing is that I still lactate a bit, 26 years after I've stopped breastfeeding. I get my prolactin levels checked and my doctors keep saying it's no big deal. I think it's extremely bizarre, if not problematic.

I'm just looking for reassurance I guess, that I'm not crazy.

Sounds like a cyst, it could be lovely cyst juice coming out.

You need to keep pestering them because they are bloody useless in this country.

I think it could be a cyst, as mentioned above. Hope you get it sorted.

I just logged in to see when I wrote this thread. I knew I'd mentioned pain. This means the pain had already been happening "for months", as of August.

I didn't talk to my doctor about it even though I had planned to. I just sat here trying to figure out why I didn't, and then I remembered the day of my appointment my mother had a mini stroke / TIA when I was on my way to the doctor, so I took my mother with me and she used my appointment instead of me. I guess I forgot to reschedule it.

I mentioned the pain to my doctor about a week ago and she said she'd check it on our next appointment which was supposed to be about my kidney problem.

As of today my symptoms are much worse including a dark red rash on the sore one, and some other changes. These new things appeared yesterday morning. I'd been with my partner the night before and it wasn't there then. In fact I thought it was a hickey at first (TMI), but it's not. It's weird it appeared so quickly like that.

I still feel swollen and heavy like I described in August. I'm glad I could find this thread for a timeline reference.

Anyway, I called my doctor and she wants to see me in the morning. MR is going with me. I'll update then.

Thanks for your input, everyone.

Hope you're ok

I'm thinking the rash may be something unrelated but best to get it checked

Let us know the result. I hope it can be cured.

I saw my doctor this morning for an exam. She couldn't find any lumps and I've never felt any lumps either, but I'm still rather inflamed and sore, almost like I'm engorged or I have mastitis.

There's a second area that is red now and some other changes even from when I got dressed today.

She booked me for a mammogram later this afternoon, and a breast ultrasound next week. They're at the regional BC Diagnostic Centre.

I had mentioned in my first post there's a kind of BC known as IBC or Inflammatory Breast Cancer and that's what she wants to rule out. Many people don't know about that type because it doesn't involve lumps and is almost never found on mammograms. Instead it causes inflammation, diffuse pain, and a deep red rash.

She said my mammogram today will likely be 100% clear because I'm not lumpy. The more important test will be next week's ultrasound, likely followed by MRI and / or a consult with a breast specialist.

Deep breaths.

Reminder to all to do regular breast exams.

Thanks for the info.

I've had lumps on my mammogram before, they turned out to be harmless cysts. Maybe that's what you've got. The doctor was so happy to tell me they were harmless, bless her.

Thank you.
I feel fine other than being swollen and kind of tender. The red parts don't hurt at all.

I'm not too worried because I've had lots of cancer scares over the years (different types of cancer), and I always end up being fine. If you could help my partner not to panic it would be great. He's having a really rough time with this, having already lost his wife and being a widower with PTSD. He's catastrophising in a big way.

That's the hardest part for me.

I didn't get a mammogram result but it's Saturday and it was expected to be clear anyway. The ultrasound will be more important, but even those can give false negatives if it's IBC.

This could be a long journey to get an answer either way.

This is off at a tangent but I read recently that playing Candy Crush, Tetris etc. can help with PTSD. No idea why but I'm going to try it.

I don’t know what those are, but let me know if they help.

I’m starting to get really scared even though I don’t want to admit it to my partner, let alone any of you or even myself.

My symptoms are worse again. I’m waiting on the ultrasound next.

Candy Crush and Tetris are some sort of computer games. I think it's when little icons fall from the sky and you have to catch them, or something. I mean the sky as in the screen.

Oh Is! Only just read this now. So sorry to hear what you’re currently going through. Thinking of you & hoping for answers for you as soon as possible & a clear, smooth path to clearing this up, whatever the cause. Can imagine what you & your partner are going through. Gentle Hugs.
