Currently I walk for 1 hour a day and balance that with moderate weight training.

How many hours a day in your opinion do you think it’s to much to walk?

1 hour a day is fine and is probably more than most people do.

You would benefit from only half of that per day. So you are doing well.

For most people, walking is a relatively low impact activity that is more than okay to do for an hour a day. Unless you have physical health issues (like bad knees for example) it's fine. I walk for an hour a day most of the time because I have a dog who gets squirrely without adequate exercise and we both like walks, so that's what we do. I think how much is too much varies from person to person and also will vary depending on where you're walking. I also like to take hikes, so for me an hour walking in my town on sidewalks is wayyyy different than if I'm somewhere in the woods moving along trails with steep inclines or rough terrain, for example. If my town had hills, the daily walks I take now would be harder on my body (and my dogs body to for that matter) and I'd probably walk a shorter distance/less time every day.

No, exercise won't reduce muscle mass, at least so long as you're eating enough.

People usually lose muscle mass either by not working those muscle groups anymore, or because they're not receiving an adequate diet.

When I weighed 160 lbs a year ago someone advised me to stop exercising and eating junk food to beef up.

I would say too much is if it starts affecting my energy level for the other parts of the day.

Pretty sure that will only beef you up like cattle on a feedlot, which is to say the empty calories from junk food will just make you gain fat.

I have been walking in 30min sections one time in the morning another around noon and another at dusk. I have been trying to lose weight so during summer I was walking for 25-30min during the heat of the day even when it was over 100F

Is there such a thing as too much walking ? :?

When I work, I'm on my feet moving about for 8-10h/day. My friend that sells beer at the beach has a pedometer and easily covers 20,000 steps on a light day, with his record being 50,000 steps in one day's work. He hasn't collapsed and died from over walking. :lol: I don't think anyone would - maybe from dehydration if you don't drink water.. but walking isn't exactly a strenuous activity that one can over do Unless you are injured or Very Old.
