They ( big money, Walmart, Bass Pro,Governor Sanders etc..) want it changed from a National Park to a preserve.This would allow them to mine or drill for oil or gas and exploit it.
It wouldn’t be protected anymore.They also want to increase tourism here, but we already have more than the location or infrastructure can handle.Sometimes tourists completely block the roads .
They have also talked about extending the boundaries.When they first made it a Park many people were evicted off their land and given a fraction of its value.
People here are very anxious about this.The majority of us say we won’t leave.Even if they show up with a Declaration of Taking.I live on a major tributary, Little Buffalo river.We worry that everyone in the watershed might be forced out.

Make them see a united front of people power against greed. Standing 100% behind you from South Africa. Where llocal community power has in many instances prevailed against corporate interests.

They stopped a major oil company from fracking off the coast.

What they don’t tell you is they harassed Granny Henderson to sell.
She cried the whole day when she had to pack up and leave.She died a few months later, most likely grieving for her home.

In Canada, but signed anyways. More land needs to be protected everywhere, not stripped for maximum short term profits. Very much prefer the Indigenous mentality that lands aren't owned, but to be taken care of for future generations' use for food/recreation/living etc. Crazy that people collectively have so much knowledge about how human activity is destroying the planet we all depend on for survival and a few morons in charge want to accelerate that.

You live within a state park boundary or something like that ? Or you're worried they'll redraw the map and expropriate everyone's land to steal minerals that might be underneath?

It’s the first National River and I live on one of its major tributaries.National Forest a miles from me on the other side.People worry they may expand and seize land and start mining and drilling.They can if the designation is changed to a Preserve from Park status.
If it remains a Park they can’t mine , drill , cut timber or exploit it.
They also want to expand tourism, a million people a year visit now and it’s too many.Erosion, and bad water quality from human waste.
We already have tourists blocking roads.
When the eclipse happens here this spring people are going to be trapped and all roads full of traffic.
