I can't help thinking that, if there were obvious alternatives, there would be serious movements to nominate one of them.

I think the problem is that, demographics dictate that the most likely candidate would be a member of Generation X, and Generation X, especially its white male members, is overwhelmingly Republican, having embraced the party of Reagan after the hardships of the 1970s.

Nevertheless, there must be somebody (a non-white or female Gen Xer, or perhaps a Millennial). Please try to make serious suggestions. This is not supposed to be a parody thread.

I'll start by proposing Tammy Duckworth. Neither white nor male, but also not an outspoken proponent of identity politics, so would probably do well in a primary if there weren't an incumbent President running for re-election.

I don't know a lot about who you have as candidates out there.

Creds to my partner for suggesting her. ^

I don’t follow US politics so I asked his opinion and then read her bio.

She sounds amazing and Trump hates her.

The good thing about the USA is you have plenty of people there to choose from. You have thousands of people living in just one city let alone elsewhere.

We must consider, however, that there is still no guarantee that Trump will be the GOP nominee.

There are ongoing efforts to render him ineligible because of 1/6, plus it is increasingly likely he will be in prison by the time Election Day comes next year.

We must also consider the possibility of a 3-way race with RFK2.

For myself.

A tree stump with a happy face carved into it...would be enough to win me away from Trump.

To win the nation?

Maybe...country singer Dolly Parton. She has a big fan base in the Bible Belt, AND among gays. So she could take the culture wars off of the table.

She's an incredible person and a philanthropist.
I'd vote for her.

Manchin or Sinema might be worth it for the lulz.

I liked Amy Klobuchar in 2020 and think of still like her. She might be on the edge of Gen X and a young Baby Boomer.
