Have you ever seen a burqa, niqab, or other face veil in person (i.e. not just a photo)?

I actually remember seeing a woman with a niqab and an abaya when I went to a grocery store in Queens with my mom about 10 years ago or so. The woman had a baby with her. I didn't say anything, but I think I mentioned it to Mom in the car on the way home because it was my first time seeing it in person. I see the hijab on a regular basis (my area has a fairly large Muslim population), but this was the only time I've ever seen the full veil.

(Personally, although I disagree with the burqa, I am against banning it. Although most Muslim women in the West don't wear it, the ones who do wear it will be impacted by bans, since that means they can't ever leave their homes.)

yes, many times. I think it depends on where you live or travel to. Its not a common occurrence here at home, but also not out of the question.

I have.

I even tried a burqa on in a sociology class.

Here in my neighborhood, in south-central Queens, I occasionally see a woman wearing a burqa or niqab. More commonly I see Muslim women just wearing headscarves that cover their hair, neck, and shoulders.

Agreed, at least for the most part.

I see burqas every time I go to the market. Some are worn by vendors and some by customers.

Most of the beggars, however, seem to be of a Muslim splinter group known as the Sama Bajau -- the Sea People.

Yup. I see women wearing niqabs every now and then and I see women wearing hijabs just about every day. Granted I live in a college town so I see people from all over. Don't think I've ever seen anyone in a burka though.

I have seen many women in face veils over the years. Women wearing niqabs, hijabs and burqas.

The city I live in has a sizeable Islamic population.

Never seen a full blown burqa IRL. Have seen the other less covering scarf thing. Hajib? Many times.

Yes, many times.

I live in a very Islamic area. There are Palestinian flags on cars and at people's homes.
