Thats true.

IF...Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee had fled to Florida. And if there were an earth quake that severed Florida from the North American mainland, and IF Lincoln had not had a big navy, then ...the Confederate govt might still be running the one state of Florida today! And Biden would be describing Florida as a "renegade state" that needs to be reunited.

The communist over threw the nationalists on the mainland. So the nationalist fled to Taiwan. Mao didnt have a navy, and the US did have a navy to keep Mao off of Taiwan.

But now Xi has industry and a navy and a much more modern war machine than Mao ever had. And Xi wants to flex his new muscles.

Yeah when the Nationalists i.e. KMT fled to Taiwan, the government in Beijing didn't have the wherewithal to do anything about it. You shouldn't be astonished to learn that this hasn't yet been forgotten.
