So its a Utube style "cat video" sent as a test from a space probe being sent to an asteroid. Sent via laser. But depicts a cat chasing a laser.

That was my point.
Thats what the hyped up headline sounds like its saying.

But when you plow through the convoluted story ...it turns out to be a different and much more mundane story. :roll:

Is that the asteroid heading for Puerto Rico on friday 13th april 2029? Or a different asteroid?

Some of the footage probably shot past the earth ...and went into deep interstellar space.

Centuries from now some little green people on a planet around another star will receive the laser message. And their first introduction to global human civilization will be..a short cat video!

Well...better that then some other types of media programming from Earth.

Never heard of this until now.

But from a little googling ...apparently they arent the same asteroids (though they are both 'near earth').

This probe is going to an asteroid called "Pysche" (the probe was given the same name).

The one you're talking about is apparently Apophis. Which they WERE afraid might hit us in 2029, but with more data they concluded that it was no threat to us.
