Why are people so dumb to think that shooting guns up in the air to celebrate New Years Eve is a good idea? The bullets come down. People have been injured and even killed by stray bullets all because people thought that celebrating New Years Eve with guns was a good idea.

Something I've always dreaded-falling bullets, like falling ceiling fans. \n Can you tell me where you are?

Lack of gun control, murrrricans, and alcohol are not a good combination.

They do that in the Arab world. Shoot their AK-47s straight up into the air to celebrate. And what goes up must come down. So folks die from getting beaned on the head. And we Murricans do it pistols and rifles too.

FUN FACT:

If there were no air on earth ...a bullet fired straight up in the air would would hit the ground with the exact same speed it left the muzzle of the gun. But air slows the bullet going up, and slows it a little coming back down. It may hit some terminal velocity on the way down. But still...if a rifle bullet with a muzzle velocity of half of a mile per second hits you on the head with one tenth that speed...you're an instant goner.

I was hoping to have a picture of a fighter plane here, but apparently I conflated the Douglas Skyray and Skylancer with the McDonnell Demon.

I bet the map of where people do this overlaps quite nicely with the map of low (or no) physics class scores in high school.

Folks fire literal guns in celebration for the sound. Not for the sight. You cant watch a bullet in flight.

We give students straight As just for showing up, thus hardly anybody actually learns anything.

^ No, not typically. I’m saying this as a mom of a student and a former teacher in a third rate, conservative school.

We have schools and systems here now that don’t even assign letter grades at all, just feedback on learning progress.

No idea if that’s in an high schools or how universities would assess people for applications without %’s and grades/GPA.
