Recommended autism literature

Hello, I'm going to diagnose myself and I'm looking for recommended books about autism spectrum disorder, preferred polish language but books may also be written in english. I want to have one book about history of autism, things like origin of the term Asperger syndrome, Hans Asperger, autistic schizophrenia term's origin etc. and the second one about characteristics of the autism, medical criteria of diagnosing etc. I don't want to read one's stories, just objective facts.

There are self diagnostic tests that you can find through an internet search. The results of these tests are only suggestive regarding the fact that you may or may not be autistic. For definitive proof, you should seek a clinical diagnosis.

My testing took about 5 hours to complete. The tests I took were far more comprehensive than the 20 odd questions I took during a self diagnostic test.

The problem with a self diagnosis is that the results aren't conclusive. There are other disorders that share symptoms with autism. This could include depression, social anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and xenophobia. A trained clinician can differentiate between autism and these other disorders. A self diagnosis cannot.

My diagnosis took about 12 hours.
If you're looking for info on the diagnostic criteria, just read the DSM5 or ICD10, or whatever's used where you live.

Happy to answer your question. The best book about the history of autism/Asperger's I ever read is 'Neurotribes' by Steve Silberman. Yes, I think there is a Polish edition!

not a book but check out Cynthia Kim's blog.
She does have a book called "I think I might be autistic, now what" that is good for most of the basics, too.
I think its only available in English. I have given it to others to help them understand autism. Very useful.

There is a "self test" included, that you can share with others.
have them do the test and compare the results to see how differently each thinks.

I gave it to my spouse and we talked about it after, it was short enough to hold his attention and talking about test results helped him see how differently our minds work.
