When I was really young I once caught a snake that was under my parent's house but it opened its mouth like it was going to bite, so I let it go. I don't think it was venomous, but they can still bite and sure I would never touch a snake again if it did.

Non-venomous snakes not only bite in self-defense, but they just don't let go right afterwards, they make chewing motions to cause more damage with their sharp little teeth and jaws. 8O

I have handled a couple of tame snakes, but I don't think I'd keep one for a pet if I had to feed it mice or guinea pigs. I've had guinea pigs as pets and I don't enjoy the thought of dangling a dead rodent in front of a snake to make it look alive. I can't even release a dead mouse caught in a trap without cringing.

My aunts friend has a bunch of snakes, so I have held one. They're pretty chill.

I've never been bitten despite catching lots of snakes. Strange.

I remember in Calvin and Hobbes the titular duo saw a snake and Calving asked, "How can you tell if it's poisonous?".
Hobbes answered, "If it bites you and you die, it's poisonous."

Yes, when I was 8, and it bit me, despite that, I wanted to take it home and keep it as a pet. In the end I set the gardener snake free. I Still love snakes

I was asked to hold a snake several times when I was a helper for the people that taught about wildlife at my school. I was like 10, though.

The other snakes I held were two of my friend's pet snakes. And then twice when a snake was in my way on the path and I just grabbed it and threw it into the bushes. I had cowboy boots but I still don't trust those suckers around my ankles. Not since that one time.
