Hello! Welcome! I am also new here, L1, a programmer, and can enjoy some absurdity. I'm very progressive but also hold a strong distaste for political correctness. People who prioritize policing the words you use care more about who can properly show their group allegiance than whether or not your principles are solid. They don't care if it's a misunderstanding or not, because they're looking for people to shun.
Do you have strong feelings about the structure of code? I work in video games, where mostly people are fine with it being very messy inside since they think they won't have to maintain it. They don't realize that you do have to work with that same code until it releases, at minimum, and that can cause a lot of problems when you come up on the deadline... so I get to be the maintainability and project management messenger to a lot of little developers.
Dance and skiing sound fun! I remember when I did more of that too. I guess the desk job is probably one of the things that makes it feel hard to do seemingly unnecessary athletics, even if actually they make your life better and are more important for people who don't move around at work.
