I can't understand why there is all this hype calling in this country to bring back national service and conscription because of Russia, the middle east and so on. Although I found out that the UK government has still ruled out conscription. I seem to think surely even the countries waging War right now, don't want a global conflict with other countries involved. I keep trying to avoid looking online about it but it still have this need to look and it feels hard to resist.

The war is too bad. I hope everything will be better soon.

I think you're right, but there's a couple of things going on here.

There's always been a contingent, mostly older people, who advocate for some kind of national service. A lot of that comes from a general dislike of younger people changing culture.

As for war there's an inherited nostalgia for war time. Inherited because most people alive in the UK now have no actual memory of war. A lot of people seem to define themselves in terms of opposition to something. In times of peace we get bored and start to look for 'enemies' within which is why we get wars on woke and other such nonsense. When we have a real, external threat it tends to bring society together.

I think a lot of people feel that something has gone seriously wrong with the world and while we can't agree what that might be, or what to do about it, perhaps they feel that a war would at least shake things up and create an opportunity for some real change? I think that's misguided but i do think some people feel that.

I do understand.

Some people want war as a means to have a fresh start, not knowing the aftermath.
Some people want war just to play out certain fantasies, not knowing the reality.
Some people want war out of genuine hatred over the world they live in, never taking account that the possibility of the outcome may not be as favorable as they hoped.
Some people want war because of some strawman crap that humans do this, humans do that, etc.

Some people want war is because of whatever they're fed with -- be it nationalism, terrorism, etc.

Which is why we need to end culture wars as quickly as possible and unite ourselves against the common enemy that threatens us. Because that is how society will progress.

I think this is a bit of hyperbole from our senior military personnel, un happy with the amount of money or at least the percentage of GDP spent on our military. In other words if you the government don't spend more then you are then this might be the result. A grate way to grab a headline I think.

I seem to think that the war in Ukraine is not really ''our'' war, its their war. If Russia was where France is then maybe we would be more worried. I don't seem to think that Russia has any interest in wanting to invade the rest of Europe including the UK and we can't really make Putin seem like he is a new Hitler and it does my head in sometimes when some people make those comparisons. I seem to think people will argue back and say ''Well, what about when we had to send UK troops to Korea, the Gulf, the Balkans to assist and defend our allies there so you'd just leave Ukraine to it ?

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst as the saying goes. I think it's fair to contemplate conscription given the British army is so small. I believe it's about 70k in size which is the same as the capacity of the Principality stadium to give a good visual representation of just how small it.

I think the UK should focus more on navy. Other than the aircraft carriers, it's very weak considering we're an island.

I don't think that people want a war. It's just that big, strong Russia is going after little, tiny Ukraine. Troops are being sent to Little Ukraine from different countries so that Ukraine has a chance of winning the war against great, big Russia. I think that everyone will be happy when the war is over and we all get to enjoy peace time again.

Arms companies pay a lot of money to governments to create narratives that push for war.
There was a really good video by david mcbride who signed off on propaganda for afghanistan,
he said they were pushing for a bigger war with russia or china because large land areas mean
more sales, bigger stuff like tanks etc.

This was about a year before Ukraine was invaded, so it looks like he was right and they got their wish.

I know that we had propaganda before the other wars but idk it feels really commercial now.
There is a lot of waste and bribery in the scene. The US govt even investigates and admits to losing
hundreds of millions in afghanistan to like random fake people.

Most world leaders and politicians are psychotic madmen and won't be happy until they've killed everyone they see as sub-human due to religious beliefs, race, disabilities, sexuality, and anything else that makes them different.

And yet they say we aspies are supposed to be the ones with black-and-white thinking.

My mom is convinced that WW III is starting soon, and while she doesn't want that to happen, she is happy because she thinks it means "the rapture" is happening soon. :|

The only thing a bully will respect is an even bigger bully.
