Can you really fall in love online?

My opinion is no.
You can develop an infatuation or deep friendship, but not romantic love.
I think you need to know a person's day to day bad side to really love.
You also need to smell them.

Yes, based on my experiences I believe so.

I love people from online, like my closest WP friends.
It's 100% love.
I just don't think I could have romantic love or "fall in love", beyond crushes.

That's just me.

Smell is too important, and touch, etc.

I get lots of crushes though.

I think if you interact with a person enough, especially one-on-one that it can happen. I know I was in love with Tsion long before we met in person.

That's beautiful.
I've never heard of that person. ^

I love a couple of peeps from WP.
I'm sure you could guess who.
That's based on years of trust and friendship including off-site.

Maybe I'm a harder nut to crack for romance because of PTSD.
(And my need for smell lol).

I once fell in love with someone the moment I heard their voice. That was online so I believe you can. I think romantic love can gradually develop online too, like the love between friends can.

You can fall in love with a persons online image, their online persona, which is usually more of an idea of a person than an actual person.

So I'd go for no, at least not for romantic love.

Friendship love? Sure.

I had someone "fall in love" with an image of me, once.
It wasn't just my looks but my whole life and whole personality.

The funny thing is that he constructed that image of whatever he wanted.
I kept telling him the image he formed didn't represent me.
That didn't seem to matter.

I was just an illusion to him.

Weird af.

No.

I fell in love with, and married, a woman I met on line, but that was after two years of dating.

There's a thread about it lol

It was weird.
He kept inventing and promoting who I was, on WP.

I kept telling him "I never said that ...", or that he was wrong.

I'm still doing damage control.
Some people thought the stuff he said about me was true.
Then when my real life didn't match, they thought I lied.

It's more like he was a w*ker.
Literally.

He was the liar.

Oh dear!

I probably did see the thread at some point and then forgot about it. I do that often.
