I just try to be grateful that I was born into a different generation.

We had the best music and the best fashions; I am told that we had the best drugs.

And now you have all the money from housing boom and retirement perks, and will die before the sky turns red from ash and everyone starves to death, I'd say you lived a pretty good period.

David Bowie captured these youth and the generation before who hate them....
“And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations.
They're quite aware of what they're going through."

The truth is they know what they are doing and pretend when they get older it never happened.

Carry a belt around town, tell them to close their eyes and okay....never mind.

I would say people have always been like this - violence has always existed in subsets of society.

If anything, the current judicial system which is very lenient in western Europe at least, can be seen as less of a deterrent to violent behaviour, since people can commit several offences in many cases without landing in jail.

I would strongly disagree with that. The US has one of the highest incarceration rates of any country in the world (sixth highest) and violent crime is much higher in the US than it is in western Europe.

Quote:
The U.S. homicide rate was 10.5-7.9 per 100,000 population compared to Europe's less than 2 per 100,000. The U.S. rate for rape was approximately seven times higher than the average for Europe. United States robbery rates were approximately four times higher than those in Europe.
