To be the benevolent autocrat is always admirable. Tito was the one example I could think of. Holding an iron fist while having a welfare state can truly make people have a positive image of autocracy as long as it provides them social welfare.

^How do you guarantee that the next leader will still be benevolent? Or do you think the world disappears when you die?

All it has to do is simply be generous. If I am to adhere to what people want besides democracy, then it's that they want to live in better places. By building many residential homes, many workplaces, building eco-friendly and non-friendly power plants, building schools and hospitals where ever they may please and police stations and fire stations, it can cost millions and even billions but in the end, such government expenditure will be valued upon by many as it will please the working class with their basic life needs.
Think of a communist neighborhood. You have a residential complex with mixed use of markets, clinics, schools, a small police station, and a small fire station, and a local hospital. All of these are within walking distance. Then you have a park, football field, a local swimming pool for recreation and sports.
That is the generous welfare of a benevolent autocrat. With such urban planning, people can look upon the bright side.

You don't seem to understand what I mean. You will die in a few decades. Can you bear to watch a beautiful country fall into chaos after only thirty years of glory?

Do not worry. By educating one to properly lead, I can guarantee such. Proper education is what I can offer to bestow someone as the desired heir to succeed me after death. My closest and most loyal of my political companions is what I will certainly pick for.

Maybe reading this will help you. This is a Slovenian guy who had traits very similar to Tito.

↑ You certainly have a vivid fantasy life. Too bad none of it is doable, or even possible.
Instead of wasting your time and effort posting on this website, try writing a story that explores all the facets of your fantasy, have it published, and use the proceeds to finance your political career?
Or does that seem like too much like Capitalism to you?

Every dictator in history has thought, (sigh), how can I tell you how difficult this is? It seems that the only way to do it is to let you do it

I highly doubt it'll yield anything other than abusive behaviour.

This sounds similar to a God complex.
I asked the question before but you didn't really answer. What achievements have you gained to warrant such lofty dreams? The reality is, most of the population doesn't have what it takes to be a dictator. The prospects get even slimmer if people have no personal experience of the economy by being long term unemployed for example.
You'll find that many leaders of developed nations have had success before reaching the top of politics. Being taken seriously is important and the population wants to be led by competent people.
yeah, but neither of the people will forget. if you follow the news, you might know what happened in Vukovar, a few months ago, when the group of serbian students were attacked by the locals just for having Serbian plates on their cars.
communists on the other hand exterminated number of Germans, Italians (to name a few) and everyone who disagreed was first sent to Križni put and Bleiburg, then to Goli otok. Remember the Croatian spring of 1967-1971? that's what happened if you dared to disagree.
the list of some repatriations:
Bleiburg repatriations
Expulsion of Germans
Istrian–Dalmatian exodus
Purges in Serbia
Bloody Christmas (Macedonia)
Massacres
Foibe Jazovka Gračani Tezno Huda jama Keva's pit cave Hrastnik Macelj Kočevski Rog Pečovnik Osijek Zagreb
Camps

Once again, that is a nationalism issue. Obviously Serbians and Croatians need to get together and the only way to punish these devious creatures for making others unsafe is by the might of the iron fist.

Bleiburg - 30,000-40,000 killed
Purges in Serbia - up to 56,000 killed (per government of Serbia estimate)
Istrian-Dalmatian Exodus - up to 11,000 killed
Bloody Christmas in Macedonia - up to 1,200 killed
By this we can estimate that over 100,000 were killed by the actions of the Partisans but the death toll of those killed by the Nazis, fascists, Ustashas, and Chetniks is way greater than that of the Partisans in WW2. That is because Tito had a soft side for the prisoners of war unlike his enemies who simply killed everyone in their path. Cvetković estimated the death toll of civilians by the Ustasha regime of NDH to be over 500,000 (Cvetković 2011, pp. 169–170).
What the Partisans have done is not to be forgiven but to be remembered as a leftist error. However, what the fascists, nationalists, and the Nazis have done is far more worse than what the Partisans did.
dude that country was as artificial as can be since it forced peoples that were culturally and religiously so different (not to mention nationalistically) into one state (that were never part of one state before 1918) and which was full of hatred towards one another, and still is. Croats and Serbs aren't brothers, they never were, not even from the genetic point of view (although that issue differs from region to region, with differing genetic makeups). the only similar thing they share is language, which is as of 1991 still growing apart since Croat nationalists are doing their best to make it as dissimilar to Serbian as possible. but it's not just that, even if it wasn't as poor as Romania or other communist countries at the time, the country was heading toward economic collapse since the beginning of the 1980-ies, and the only country moderately prospering at the time was Slovenia, and it still is. the model was simply not sustainable. quoting a source:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_o ... Late_1980s
what was better then was the fact that it really was a secular country, and (I'm speaking of Croatia now), there wasn't a big funding of the Vatican (as if the bastards needed any kind of financial help). croatia signed the Vatican agreements, which means that every working Croatian citizen has to finance the local church (even if not a member) and the effing Vatican, and that church is exempt from taxes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaties_ ... e_Holy_See
the Vatican's net worth is estimated to be around $30 billion, so yeah, Croats are religious nutties who keep on choosing nationalist HDZ which which lets masses being held for Pavelić every year in the middle of Zagreb (and wider), and apparently, that is perfectly fine for the Croatian government.

from more recent times, aka 2 months ago: https://www.057info.hr/vijesti/2023-12- ... a-pavelica
they started the canonization process for now beatified Stepinac, who let Jews, Serbs and Romani people be slaughtered in Jasenovac, Stara gradiška and other concentration camps, so nope, religious nationalism isn't going anywhere any time soon.
in short, you're beating the dead horse (or should I say putrified), but I agree with the idea of you writing a utopian novel, maybe you'll be another Ivo Andrić, who knows.
it might be of interest that the local court in Croatia has recently reached a verdict saying that the previous Yugoslavia, that is FNRJ, not SFRJ (FNRJ became SFRJ in 1963), has to return a piece of land to a family in northern Croatia. that Yugoslavia has 15 days for an appeal. the case has been going on since 1939, so from the time of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. FNRJ has been notified by the usual means.
so if you plan to set up MAROF in that area, judging by the speed of the local courts, it might take a century to deal with the bureaucracy.
