This is a full video of the event from NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The video is 3 hours 9 minutes long and it actually begins at 9 minutes and 14 seconds, so move it forward to that point.

Of course as I have been reminded in the many online videos I have watched a partial eclipse even a 99 percent one is not close to total one.

You can say that again!

I watched the eclipse from the convenience of my new back yard in Cleveland Heights.

I had my Iso-certified glasses, but found I preferred a welder's lens (level 13).

It was cool watching the moon move across the sun, and feeling the distinct drop in temperature as it advanced!

But the difference between even a tiny sliver of uncovered sun, and the totality was EVERYTHING.

Once the eclipse was total, dropping the lens and looking at the eclipse was amazing. I think there was a solar flare at the bottom of the corona....orange-red and higher than the rest. Also, Venus showed up bright and clear in the darkened sky!

I was hoping to see the devil comet in my NW sky, as well, but that didn't show up.

As the moon moved off and the first itsy ray of uncovered sun made me look away (cinematic as its burst was!) the real magic was over.

The totality is where it's at!

Traffic jams clog US highways as eclipse viewers head home after watching once-in-a-lifetime event

Quote:
A once-in-a-lifetime celestial happening has led to nightmarish traffic jams, as tens of thousands of people across the US clogged the highways during their return home from viewing the total solar eclipse.

Shortly after the totality ended incrementally across a swath of the country on Monday, viewers took to the roads and slowed traffic to a sluggish pace.

In Indiana — which was almost completely covered by the totality and was the destination of choice for many watchers — traffic ground to a standstill on parts of Interstate 65 and 67 as the totality passed, the Indianapolis Star reported.

Traffic jams were exacerbated by the fact that so many drivers had pulled off into rest stops across the state to watch the eclipse that they reached capacity, leading to backups as they all got back on the road, Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said in an X post.

Illinois also saw an uptick in severe slowdowns and even crash reports after the eclipse passed, the state’s Department of Transportation said.

In the northeast, Vermont roads were nearly empty as the totality passed overhead, WCAX reported, but the roads filled up within minutes of the eclipse ending, leading to traffic jams that were heaviest in the Burlington area.

Photos outside Columbus, Ohio, from the Columbus Dispatch showed long lines of cars stretching down the southbound side of US 23 as residents headed back into the city.

In some places, the traffic preceded the eclipse as people made a last dash to catch the eclipse before it arrived.

Michigan saw such traffic as people tried to speed south to catch the 3 p.m. totality in Ohio, leading to huge jams on Interstate 75, Click On Detroit reported.

Down south, Arkansas saw traffic build as soon as the eclipse passed, according to 4029 News.

In New York City, intersections became jammed during the city’s eclipse as people filled the streets to catch whatever glimpses of the sun they could between the tall towers — leading to irate drivers laying on their horns as the crowds largely ignored them.

This is a Drone video of the Solar Eclipse from a city about 30 miles away called Bloomington, Indiana. It is a view looking down. The total eclipse occurs around 8 minutes into the video.

Here is a video of the event from my city of Bloomfield, Indiana. It is taken by Kent Vanderploeg. He notes: Flown above the Prairie Chapel in Bloomfield, IN. Video starts facing SW, then I swing to the NE at the end to watch the umbra exit the area. Shown in normal speed, but set YT player to 2X for a more dramatic effect.

Here is a short video from a flyover in downtown Muncie, Indiana of the event. It is located 116 miles away as the crow flies from my home.

I came across this article that highlighted the total solar eclipse. It was from a few weeks ago, but it was worth watching.

Interesting. Do you not realize we are in different time zones. You are in Pacific Daylight time. I live in the Eastern Time Zone. They are 3 hours different. At the moment it is 3:51 P.M. in my timezone and 12:51 in your timezone.

Our planet Earth is a mighty large place.

At the moment, the eclipse is still ongoing. Slowly the sun is producing more and more light. Outside temperatures are heating up. I suspect that at around 4 P.M. (my time), life will return back to normal. So the total event lasted from start to finish around 2 hours with 4 minutes of total eclipse in the middle.

I am a little confused by what you meant by Corona. Perhaps you meant:

1. I was being sarcastic.. hence the ":p"

2.

Corona:

Also Corona:

Here is a video of the Total Solar Eclipse as taken from Arkansas. They were setting up to observe the event from Texas but moved their primary location at the last minute. They are from the Griffith Observatory. This is a very long video. The time of total solar eclipse begins at 1 hour and 51 minutes into the video. So you might watch the beginning of the video which provides a good discussion of what is to come and then move forward to the Total Eclipse.

Sometimes it is hard for an Aspie to understand Sarcasm.
By definition: Sarcasm is defined as "the use of irony to mock or convey contempt."
So does that mean that you were trying to mock me or convey contempt for me, an Aspie?
That is a very impolite thing to do.

fredericktown MO was the best we could do for being near the center zone of totality, it stayed dark for just shy of 4 minutes. couldn't have asked for a better one. I am so privileged to have witnessed two total solar eclipses in my lifetime. wish I had better photo equipment though. :| anything less than a DSLR resulted in overexposed images. anyways, it was about 6 hours of driving each way through sometimes clogged traffic. but a surprising number of folks living in the zone of totality were totally oblivious to this extremely rare event, having no curiosity whatsoever. sad. this event was even better than the one in madras oregon back in 2017. the traffic was far calmer and thinner for starters. the weather was far better.

In my OP on this thread I said I saw a solar flare at the bottom of the corona during the totality. I've been corrected by the specialists who also saw it. It was a solar prominence, because a flare detaches from the sun while a prominence is a burst that is still attached at the base.

Still cool! .....or hot!?

This is another video of the Total Eclipse from northern New England (Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine).
The presentation begins at 7 minutes 50 seconds into the 3:09:55 video.

Interesting - 300 couples got married in Russellville, Arkansas at the point of totality.
